I am very sorry Lexi has a Liver Shunt

You might want to join this Livershunt/MVD group on yahoo...lots of support and good info Liver_Shunt_And_MVD_Support : Liver Shunt & MVD/HMD Support My Lacy had an ultrasound yesterday because her bile acids were high..no shunt was found but they did find abnormal spots on her liver so she's going to have a biopsy. I hope your baby does well with the surgery...I've heard most do such a turnaround after the surgery. Please let us know how it goes

Lexie is at ISU Vet med school. Lexie's surgery is scheduled for 8am Tuesday. She will stay at the vet med center until Friday so that they can keep an eye on her. Lexie is doing well and actually pretty active.

So glad to hear she has been dxd and will be getting the corrective surgery.
Please tell your friend to join the Yahoo Group posted in this thread. There are lots of people with LS dogs that have had very successful surgeries...BUT...after care is just as important. Lots of Vets just do not have enough experience and knowledge with the 'after care - down the road - after surgery - Most LS babies need to be a on special diet and supplements for the rest of their lives, it's not a big deal, but it should be followed to ensure she doesn't shoot another shunt at a later point in time. Red Meats and Organs MUST be avoided - FOREVER...Even Chicken is questionable...

...also...not to scare you, but since your baby is related, you should also have a Bile Acid Test done on her too. Better to be safe and the BAT is relatively inexpensive
