Hey there Michelle. You have been in my thoughts and prayers since I learned about what Lacy and you are going through. Glad to read that its a diagnosis that with a change in diet can have Lacy feeling Great in no time.

I love that so many yters have posted so much helpful information for you, it sounds like you are on the right track and Lacy will get better, yeaaa!!

Hugs from us and good healthy wishes too.

It'll really be interesting to see what Susan has to say . She is so wonderful to talk to!

Michele, I use oxyfresh pet gel for brushing, it seems natural, no alcohol listed, perhaps you can call 800-333-7374 and order a sample for Lacy.

Michele,

I am so happy you have made this decision. I have heard nothing but great things about her from Lisa Jodie and Lauren which is why I passed the info along to you. Looking for a update. One good thing is you are on top of it and that is what truly matters.

Vicki

Good luck with your consult...hope you are able to find something that you'll be comfortable feeding and is good for Lacy as well.
Do you know, does she ever advise commercial dog food...or does she always suggest home cooking? I've often thought about calling her for a consult on Winston, but I don't really want to home cook, unless I have to. Would she suggest a commercial food depending on the nutritional needs of a certain dog? Like Winston needs higher fiber and carbohydrates...and less fat and protein.

Susan does not only advise home cooking- she finds out what will work for you and go with that. She is a STRONG advocate for Nature's Variety- but not just the raw- the kibble as well- however, i don't use any NV for Layla and she is fine with that too. Susan wants to just help you do what you can do to make your dog healthy and at its best.

She will suggest supplements to best help your dog- but again- nothing is mandatory- they are all suggestions. My guess is she would try to get you to do half kibble half home cooking, but only if that worked for you.

Our consult got moved to Saturday mornng. Because of Lacy's unusual diagnosis, Dr. Davis felt it was best to do a joint consult with Dr. Gordon (holistic vet) as well. So I'll be sending over all her records and will then talk to Dr. Gordon at 10:00 saturday morning and then he will meet with Dr. Davis and she will call me around 11:30 to discuss Lacy's diet. I'm really looking forward to talking with them and hope we can get a good diet for Lacy. It seems like diet is the main thing in managing her diagnosis.

Great to hear- I love that Susan knows her boundaries and knows when she needs to bring in the vet- Jodie (Luvmysissy) did a joint consult too and had success- can't wait to hear how it went!

She has been doing well since she recovered from her biopsy. She's been eating the homecooked food pretty well too.

Great news!

Hopefully a diet change is all she needs.

Default Petzlife Gel

I had E-mailed Petzlife customer service about Lacy's diagnosis and my concern over the alcohol, and the owner of Petzlife - Bud Groth e-mailed me back and provided his phone number for me to call and talk with him. I called him this morning and spoke with him for about 20 minutes. VERY NICE MAN and from talking to him, you can tell he truly cares about the animals. He didn't give some automated company-type response but was very personable and said he was so glad I brought up my concern. He said he had spoken with the person that left the negative review posted on amazon in this thread, but they never did any follow up with him. He said he cannot guarantee that no dog or cat will be adversely affected by the product because each animal is an individual, but he truly feels like the product is very safe, as do many many vets who have used the product for their clients for years. He said the alcohol used is to keep the oils suspended in the gel and that the amount used is so minimal that most evaporates before it is even swallowed.

So...after speaking with him I really really doubt Petzlife led to Lacy's problem and I'm really sure the product is very safe. The amount of alcohol is so small. I am going to bring this up Saturday when I speak to Dr. Gordon and Dr. Davis, but I will probably keep using the product. I most likely will just use a very small amount a couple times a week and try to brush teeth with dog toothpaste every evening.

If any of you want to speak with Bud, PM me and I can give you his phone number. He also gave me a 10% discount code that I could pass along for the Petzlife website. It is APETZLIFE

This is good news to me, tooth problems were one of the reasons, I didn't even want to get a Yorkie, and when I first read about success with Petzlife from members here, I was thrilled. Then people seem to get so anxious because the product contained alcohol. I've known people who thought it was funny to give a dog alcohol or let them lap up a beer, and would become enraged by this. One of my first posts on Yorkietalk was because people were joking about giving their dogs alcohol, and I was so afraid people would think they were serious. So I've been one of those advocates who warned people about giving their dogs alcohol, yet I didn't believe the amount in Petzlife, was anything to be concerned with. Thanks for checking this out. If Petzlife can put off a professional teeth cleaning for a while, I'm all for it, I believe the risk associated with anesthesia is greater than the risk associated with the small amount of alcohol in Petzlife. While there are products that contain no alcohol, I'm not sure if any of them are effective, and it seems that so many people have been really pleased with the results of Petzlife.

Good news!! I also have talked to Bud before (about using Petzlife on an Arabian I was taking care of, about 2 years ago) and he is SO nice and helpful - and I too felt he really did care about his product and the animals who use it. I am glad to read this, as I know so many people here use the product.
