| Is this Normal after Neutering? Graphic Pictures Attached! Please Help! Hi Harley and I are new to Yorkie.com this is my first post!I have been reading through all the Threads for weeks and have learnt so much about my Baby Thank You so much I love this siteI am hoping someone can tell me that this is perfectly normal? I took Harley in on Friday to get him Neutered and everything went good his Blood Work was all Normal and the neutering went well They said He did not need a collar cause he did not once try and lick himself they had him until Saturday morning! I went to pick him up and all looked good no redness,no swelling seemed like himself later in the evening Saturday night I noticed there was swelling and like a redness almost like blood under the skin see pictures as to what I mean they may be a bit GRAPHIC for some people. I called the Vet and He said Harley probably go at it!He told me to put Ice on it! I have been watching him 247 I have not left his side but who knows I guess it can happen in a minute soooo I went to Walmart and bought a Baby Onsie so that there is no way he could have access I got that idea from this site of course Please if anyone has any knowledge as to if this is Normal or not please let me know,I am very scared cause you think they would have told me to expect this! Thank you sooo much in advance Linda and Harley |

| Based on my experience, that isn't normal and it looks pretty sore. I'd take him back in to make sure there aren't complications like an infection. I don't see how ice would help. Welcome to the forum, and good luck! |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | I posted in the other thread too. Hematomas are normal after surgery. However, if the swelling is worsening rather than improving, then I'd take him in. Since there is swelling, I'd also get something for pain - for sure.

| It doesn't look normal to me. I'd take him back to the vet.

| I got my dog neutered two weeks ago and at no point did the incision look like that. I'd take the little one to the vet asap. Hope its just normal bruising though, good luck! |

| Yes, I agree with others...please take him to the vet as soon as possible. Also once you bring him back home, try to get him newborn onesies to wear. You can cut a hole for his tail.

| It doesn't look normal to me either. The ice will only help with the swelling, but won't do anything for what is going on underneath the skin. And I can't tell where his stitches are, what are they made of and are they underneath the skin, on top or both. If he was stitched underneath with dissolving, he could have jumped and stretched it and it pulled away from the tissues and made it bleed. The other would be an infection. I know that if people get a blood infection it makes red streakes , but that's not what that looks like. It looks more like he had blood underneath and it created bruising or hemotoma. Whichever way the vet did all this, the best thing to do would be to go to the vet. Let us know how he is doing and what the vet says. And didn't the vet give him pain medicine when they neutered him? That poor baby boy.

Donating YT 3000 Club Member | The top part redness looks fine but the below does not look ok at all It looks like there is mabee fluid or blood in there I would take him back. BTW a recheck should be free Even at my expensive vet it is. |

| It is normal to have some bruising. That looks a bit extreme. I would go back to the vet just to make sure all is well. |

| Poor baby, I agree with the other posts, looks a bit much too. It's good to have him rechecked after this procedure. |

| Harley will be ok!! Hi everyone!! First of all I would like to Thank Altigger74 for posting for me cause it did not seem to work for me yesterday and I see it worked today!! Had I not known about this site I would have never had the support from Jenn to get me through this ordeal!Bless her heartLast night in a panic I called the vet that did the surgery and told him that there was alot of blood under the skin and very swollen worse than the day before even after putting ice on him! He said Harley must of got at it meaning he licked it I said no way cause he has a onsie on and has been doing nothing but laying around.I told him I had to hand feed him and put water on my fingers so he would eat and drink.I explained that this was on the inside not outside. This morning I emailed him the pictures and he said that this happens in 50% of dogs I did not believe this to be true!So I no longer trusted him with my baby This morning I took him to a different vet and she said: The bruising seen on Harley's SCROTUM and PREPORTAL area is likely due to the CORPUS CAVERNOSUS being nicked by SCALPEL during SURGERY. There may also be bleeding in the SCROTUM due to a VESSEL in the TUNIC of the TESTICLE leaking. This should resolve and is a non-life threantening. The vet also said the vet that did the surgery must be referring to 50% of the dogs he did surgery on The Breeder that I got Harley from suggested we go there cause he is a great Dr. of course she would not have any experiance with him neutering cause she breeds.I put my trust in him! Harley is on METACAM for 3 days and Ice for the swelling when he allows it! I cannot believe I paid $250 to have them do this to my little man I paid $80 for someone to tell me the vet did this I am Heart broken that this has happened to my Baby but thankful he will recoverI hope and Pray that nobody else has to ever go through this with their Baby it was very scaryThank God he will be ok I thank Yorkie.com and the wonderful people here for all their support and prayers,God Bless!
