| Belle got her first Rabies Vaccine and I'm worried. Today Belle got some more puppy shots which included her first Rabies vaccine. The last time she got her shots she was a little under the weather but I'm a little more worried this time. After her shots, Belle was her normal self for about an hour. Then I noticed she was acting really tired. A few hours later she got diarhea. It's been 6 hours since her shot and all she is doing is sleeping and if shes not asleep shes just sitting there or pooping somewhere. She has had 3 runny stools. Should I be worried? She is 11 weeks old. Oh, I tried giving her some Albon and I'm having a lot of trouble getting her to take it. When I tried to open her mouth she started growling and snapping at me. It wasn't her playful growl either...the first time I've seen her that way. Any suggestions on getting her to take it?

| I've never heard of an 11 week old puppy being given the rabies vaccine! She's too young. Even worse, it should always be given at least two weeks separately from any other vaccines. No wonder that poor baby is so sick. What you describe isn't life threatening, but she probably feels terrible. It's hard to tell which vaccine she had a reaction, too. If she gets worse, you should call the ER vet. Here is some information on the rabies vaccine and typical signs of a reactions for a few days afterwards, plus more serious symptoms to watch out for: What You Should Know About the Rabies Vaccine for Dogs |

| Oh my. I had no idea. I trust my vet so I was confident he would do things correctly. I called him and he said to call if she got any worse. I wake her up to try to eat or drink and she just walks away and goes back to sleep. Maybe I should be looking for a new vet Oh and something else... he wants to spay her in 3 weeks. isn't this too early?? and she's so small... 1 lb 10 I'd

| please go with your instincts. YES, the rabies was given too early to her, and YES, she is a very small Yorkie. I would not spay her at this time, she is too tiny and young. I would also be looking for a new vet if I were you! my baby is 9 months old and about 8 lbs. I have not spayed her yet, and wanted to wait until about a yr old even for her.

| Thank you so much guys for the help! And thanks to YT I knew something was wrong with getting her spayed so small. What would I do without YT?? Belle pooped again (mostly watery) but seems to be feeling better she is playing and trying to attack my feet

| If the watery diarrhea continues, definitely get her seen again. ( This time by a different vet). it could be a parasite. I agree with everyone else...find another vet! Next time, try giving the shots separately. They tend to react less. Hope she feels better soon!

| I was just doing some searching and not only is it a lot of peoples' opinions that the rabies shouldn't be given at 11 weeks, it appears as though both Pfizer and Merial (probably the two most used rabies vaccines) say don't use it before 3 months (12 weeks) in the instructions... This is still way too young for s small dog but it is surprising that a vet would ignore the company's instructions. I really would consider switching. There is also no reason to spay most dogs at that age and no way with her weight. You still have plenty of time for her to gain some.

| I was getting worried again last night because Belle totally switched personalities. She wouldn't let me touch her and was almost attacking me..growling and barking. I think she was just really tired though...there were people over for Christmas Eve which meant lots of noise and stimulation and she already didn't feel well. It was about 11:30 that night before everyone left and as soon as we went upstairs for bed she was out and barely moved all night. She is back to her normal self this morning so I hope she's okay.
