| Yitzee Has Blisters/Sores All Over! Please tell me if I'm doing the right thing. I read on a few posts that Yitzee's (Miss Yips) problem might be solved with oxydex, pyobin or chlorhexaderm shampoo. On those posts, I read that some posters had used clearasil or stridex with the benzoyl peroxide (the main ingredient to the shampoos). I got out my stridex and put it on a few of her blisters (they pop and turn to sores about 2-3 days after they appear). Low and behold--the blisters and redness were nearly gone today (applied last night) that I put it on. I put some more on her tonight and held her for about half an hour so that it could dry and she didn't lick....woohoo! I live in the Virgin Islands and have taken Yitzee (Miss Yip) to the doc before for this 3 times at least and he keeps telling me allergies or ph balance out of whack. She hasn't had the problem for over a year now (the whole time I've been out of the Virgin Islands). Do any of you think its heat and bacteria? Heat meaning weather. Yitzee is spayed. I don't have air conditioning (few do down here because it is tolerable because of the ocean breezes). I keep fans on her and Oscar (her adopted younger yorkie brother) during the day when I'm at work so it stays pretty cool in the room. However, it is also very humid down here so I'm thinking it could be a mix of the heat, moisture, etc. I'm thinking I need to put in an air conditioner or something. I hate these blisters and I hate the fact the vets here and in the U.S. have such a problem coming up with a diagnosis. Any thoughts? |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | I'm not sure what could be causing it, but maybe the humidity is contributing to the problem. Have they ruled out Thyroid problems? Cushing's disease? I have an older pom who has sores all over and at first they thought it was from a thyroid condition but meds didn't help so after further testing she was found to have Cushings disease. I hope you can find out what the cause is.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Has a skin scraping ever been done on her? That would be important. Have you ever looked into Pyoderma? That can sort of blister, scale/flake, fester a bit. Or, she could be have a severe allergic reaction to something - perhaps something her paws are coming into contact w/ outside? I don't know...it just sounds too severe to not be able to find out what it is...

| I'm the one who posted about benzoyl peroxide. Yitzee must have had a staph infection like Lady had. Antibiotics only cleared it up until I stopped using them. Then the pimples came right back. I read about using benzoyl peroxide online and it has been a miracle! I get Clearasil vanishing formula and use it at the first sign of a sore. I also use Chlorhexaderm shampoo every 4-6 weeks. Dogs naturally have staph bacteria on their skin. Staph infections are usually caused by allergies. |

| I'm so glad it worked for you, too! A member on another forum tried it on her old Maltese who was covered with sores and practically bald from staph. Five rounds of antibiotics weren't clearing it up. I told her to try Clearasil and within a week it was clearing up! |
