cough/sneezing I bought my lil guy from a pet store. He is a teacup 7 months old now. I bought him at 5.5 months. I notice the cough and sneezing (reverse sneezing)…The pet store gave me medicine and it would not go away so 3 weeks ago I took him to vet. They did x-ray to check for trachea collapse, but found nothing wrong there. They gave him a shot of antibiotics, pills, and amoxicillin for 14 days. I went back last Saturday for a follow up. The cough and reverse sneezing was doing it less…At first with pet store medicine he would do it 4 times cough and sneeze each per day…But with vet medicine it would be less. Today he did reverse sneezing in the morning about 4 times one after another…He was just waking up. continue below

He coughs 2 times the entire week. So today I took him for another follow up. I told the vet. And she told me to go to an animal specialist; she said to go to them. She said she did everything she could and it has not stopped. Or the cough which is less, but still there. I call it reverse sneezing because I saw the videos on youtube and that’s how it sounds for him…..Can he die from reverse sneezing if not treated or if it does not stop….What do you guys recommend I do…I asked the prize of how much it would be for the specialist to check him out and she said about 1000 for everything….that’s a lot of money…can anyone help out….

He probably has kennel cough which can be very hard to combat and will require constant medication from the vet until it goes away.

I would hate to scare you but I might ask for a chest X ray. A dog from a pet store comes from who knows were and could have been exposed to who knows what. He could have some type of lung infection. Most of the time pet store dogs come from puppy mills. The dogs are most likely kept in small dirty cages and end up inhailing there own waist which causes serious lung problems. What are you feeding him? What was the pet store feeding him? Is he drinking all right? How is his energy level? Ps, I am glad you found this site. As a new dog owner you must have alot of questions, don't be afraid to ask! there is alot of good advice here!!

What brand of food? Did the Xray show the lungs? Does your vet know he is from a pet store? Is he still on antibiotics?

You could try changing his food to one that doesn't have beet pulp or wheat gluten or any kind of wheat. Usually a food allergy causes itching but sneezing and coughing isn't unheard of. Do you use carpet powders or spray on cleaners? wear perfume? use heavy scented fabric softener?
