| ![]() Riley has been vomiting and suffering from diarrhea/loose stools for a week now. It started last Thurs when I was out of town for the week for work. She and I were staying with friends. Until Thurs, Riley had been kenneled during the day, but then my friend decided to let her run the house while I was gone. I had stressed to her the importance of supervision at all times. Moot point, unfortunately. ![]() She woke us up to go out. Then proceeded to come back in and make a mess in the bed. ![]() After X-Rays, he determined she has an obstruction in her tummy and sent off the films to a board certified radiologist to determine what our next step is. Slight chance it is unmoved food (unlikely, though, since she hasn't eaten since last night 5:00). Could be carpet fiber buildup. Could be something from my friend's house. We should know later today or by tomorrow morning. He also did bloodwork, and we're going to have a parasite screening just in case, as well. She has a lot of gas in her tummy and intestines and some irritation (colitis) when can often result from eating food other than her own, stress, etc. We've been through many bouts of that with Penny. She was sent home with meds and some canned W/D to help bulk up her stool. There is the hope that the W/D will move whatever is in her tummy and that would be the end of it. She's a miserable little mess! Please say a prayer for a simple solution and quick recovery for my little girl. ![]() |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | ![]() Poor baby, A little while ago Cali ate the whole bottom of a latex toy and a day later started walking all hunched over. I took her to the er vet (got the one I don't like) he took xrays and kept saying she just had eaten too much, her tummy was full and no obstruction he could see, and that her problem was her spine. He suggested I leave her over night and I decided to take her home instead. The next day she pooped out the whole bottom of the toy, I couldn't believe it would even have been able to pass and was fine. I hope your baby will pass whatever it is and feel better soon.

| ![]() Poor little sweetie! I have prayed for her and hope that all comes out well and she's back to herself really soon. It's so hard to see these little ones so under the weather. *HUG*

| ![]() Dr called me late this morning. He said her bloodwork came back normal. The radiologist confirmed the obstruction and thought it might be food that Riley cannot pass on her own or something of that nature. "Dietary indiscretion." But she couldn't rule out a foreign object. Riley has been responding well to the meds and the W/D. She hasn't vomited today and her stools are solid again. Since she is responding well to treatment, we will continue this throughout the weekend to see if her body will process the obstruction on its own. If not, we'll have to give her barium and a series of X-Rays. It seems she'll come out of this just fine, though. I really do think that it's a combination of the strange food she got into and probably some carpet fiber/hair from her obsessive licking problem. Let this be a lesson for everyone... don't let your babies eat food they are not accustomed to, especially not crappy department store food. Not only is it of poor quality and full of nasty ingredients, there's a chance your furkid's body won't even be able to process it! I sure hope my friend learns from this situation as well and respects my decision to keep my girl kenneled when I'm not around. At least I was able to educate her on nutrition, and she ordered a bag of high quality food (Life 4 K9) for her two dogs. |
