| Layla's lycopase enzymes through the roof The vet called back today... Layla's lycopase enzymes are very high.... which if yo udont' know, is pancrease. They are sending more blood tests away to see if it is pancreatitis.... or just high lycopase enzymes. I just need to hear from anyone who has dogs with this.... i am just so upset.... she was eating salmon the whole week leading up to this test.... so i know that had something to do with it... she gets cheese which we are also cutting out and going to start on low fat yogurt... i'm going to go buy a low fat kibble... even though she doesn't often eat kibble.... just need some help and support |

| Hmm, that is odd. Has she been throwing up or having diarrhea? Ellie was diagnosed with pancreatitis (ultrasound) 8 days after she had a vomiting episode, so if the fish is low fat, it may not be that and it may not be fat in the diet at all. That is just one trigger (although if it is pancreatitis, fat will probably need to be kept low just in case). What was she being fed before the fish?

She isn't having any symptoms of pancreatitis..... It can also go up with GI disease. That is so long to wait. She does have a sensitive stomach though. It is probably related.

We have a holiday weekend this weekend... so i hope to hear by Wednesday.... And the lab only runs this test a few days a week... she thinks today is one fo the days but again... everyone is off until monday so i won't hear back until then. I know she'll be ok.. because she has been just fine... i would have had NO Idea they were that high.... Crystal... if it DOES come back and she is fine.. no pancreatitis.. is there anything els eyou suggest i have them look into??? The vet tech said she could just have elevated numbers and no pancreatitis... so i guess we'll just have to adjust her diet??? i wish it wasn't friday of a holiday weekend! What is GI disease???? it doen'st sound good...... | |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Since she isn't showing other symptoms, but did have a soft stool - it could well have been an acute episode of gastritis (even just a minor one). How is she doing today?

| she's fine... normal... sleepy today but it's cold here... she has clothes on and I have her warm bed on.. lol.. so again.. normal for her. plus she went for a walk last night... but again... she is perfect today.. she ate her breakfast- extra lean ground beef with some sweet potato... peed... had a treat.... i wish i could find SOMETHING different.... a few mornings ago she made the noise like she was goign to puke.. but didn't... and her morning puking has virtually disappeared now that she is getting a before bed snack..... |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Yeah, it really just sounds like a short, acute episode of some sort of digestive upset (esp. if amylase was normal). I know it's really scary to have enzymes outside of normal limits, but honestly, it's not as uncommon as folks think. I think it's *more* scary for us yorkie owners bc of the increased chances toward pancreatitis -- but, in the absence of other symptoms, I'd try () not to worry and think that it really could just be an acute thing.

GI disease is just gastrointesinal disease. Like Ann was saying, it could be something like gastritis. I think that would fit the description. Do you have the number and your lab's reference range? I will see what I can find about high lipase but it may be nothing at all. Again I say, that doesn't sound like pancreatitis.
