all I can. Good luck with this baby.

Thank you so much, that would be amazing. We are going to run some blood tests to be 100% certain it is a Liver Shunt but all fingers point to it. Then We are going to get him healthy enough for surgery. Vinnico "Vinny" as we named him also came to us malnourished, flea infested, and missing hair. He is getting dietary supplements and fatty foods right now, plus mothers milk supplement for puppies is on the way. Then we are going to save up, but Tennessee sounds the most promising from all the recommendations of it. Thank you everybody sooo much for all this amazing advise. you are really helping with the heart ache.

Good to hear he is in a loving home. Please be causious as to what you feed him. LS dogs need to have a very low, but quality protein food. Be carefully with the 'fatty foods'. We are here if you need anything.

My Roxy has liver issues - MVD :(

It is nice that there are people like you willing to take in a special needs dog. Hopefully he will live a long and happy life with you and your family.

I saw his picture on the website you purchased him from when you mentioned you were getting him last week... he is a special little guy!!

Wishing you the best with him... may all things get better!! ;)

Kaity, Oh honey, I am so sorry this awful man was allowed to hurt yet another family and another puppy. He definitely needs to be GONE. He must be raking in the money to be able to keep fighting all the complaints against him. As for your sweet Vinny. Feed him good quality healthy low protien food, not fatty. Continue with your vet and get the diagnosis. Then if I were you, I would take the generous offer Sassy Anne has made to you. Dr. Tobias is the BEST and if it were MY puppy, I would go thru hell and high water to get there.

Please make sure what you are feeding him. As Nicole mentioned, dogs with LS need a certain diet. I also heard that fatty food is no good for dogs with Liver Shunt. Sending good thoughts and prayers.

Breezeaway 10-06-2008 07:33 PM

OMG he is so tiny , can they even operate on such a small baby? It breaks my heart.

SassyAnn101 10-07-2008 05:45 AM

You are a really good person for keeping this little baby and trying to help him. I lost my Gizmo in February from a liver shunt. He was almost 4 years old, and his liver was very damaged. UT is the best, every one there is great. They had me feeding Gizmo Science Diet LS because it was easier to digest. The people who I work for owns several hotels in the area, and he also has 5 yorkies, so if you decide to come to Tennessee let me know and I can arrange for you to stay free. You and this little baby will be in my thoughts and prayers. I pray that he gains the strength to come through this.

bildio 10-07-2008 07:46 AM

I wonder if the little guy was really left in a hot car, or the "seller' new he had a liver shunt? The former may or may not have caused permanent damage, but the latter has the potential for a favorable outcome.

He must be raking in the money, there is a link on the website to all of the property he is selling. There had to be at least $1,000,000 worth of land and a home he either sold or was selling.

Karma! Karma! Karma! is all I have to say about this man.

thank you for the food tip... I am going to ask a local pet food store if they have any LS foods =) I am also looking up how to start a fund raiser type charity I know local pets stores and vets would let me advertise in their shops

There really isn't any LS food to buy at a Petshop. The 2 that are recommended you must get from your Vet.

*I think* they are the L/D (wet) and there is a Royal Cain (dry) that is often prescribed for LS dogs - but your Vet should know this.

The problem with feeding too much protein to dogs with LS is that it can cause Hepatic Encepthalopathy (H.E.) ~ so things to watch for are:

Drooling
Vomiting
Pacing
Circling
Inability to sit still for any length of time and drinking lots of water
A stuporous look
Head pressing
Staggering
Listlessness
Runny nose
Blank look
Stare
Lethargy

Not all dogs display all the symptoms, but you will get to know the ones your dog displays.

P.S. I think that is great if you can locally raise funds to help the costs.
And in case you aren't yet familiar with YT - I just wanted to give you a head ups that according to YT rules, we are not allowed to do any type of fund raising or asking for donations here on the board.

SassyAnn101 10-07-2008 09:29 AM

I'm sorry, it was Science Diet L/D canned food. The vet gave it to me for Gizmo. It worked better for him. Does your baby's symptoms get worse after eating? Gizmo would always shake really bad after eating.

I actualy think they get better... they are so bad though I can't really tell.

He shakes really bad in fits... almost like seizures but he looks at me scared the hole time. He tries to walk harder after he eats. He is actualy getting to the point where he can stumble almost a foot.

I am feeding him Nutri-Cal every day too. That isn't bad for it liver is it?

Here are two pictures of little Vinny.
He looks shagy but believe me this is after we cut matts out of his hair and towel bathed him.

LunasMomma 10-07-2008 10:48 AM

:unlove: He just breaks my heart! He looks like he's in dire need of help and bless you for doing everything you can for him:love:

Busters-Mom 10-07-2008 11:15 AM

He is adorable. Reading this thread today has 1) made me happy you adopted this little guy and I pray you are given the ability to provide his expensive care and 2) really upset at the complete disregard for any life Jeff Dane has shown. I can only hope that one day he reaps what he has sown bringing all of these sick animals into the world and not caring one bit about how they end up.

I don't know how people can live with themselves doing that

butterfly 10-07-2008 11:25 AM

Oh! I am so sorry about this.

I am sure this breeder 'rescue' dogs are all his own dogs. The older females were surely breeders.

Sometimes a tiny weak one will survive like this little guy. But obviously he is hanging on dispite his circumstances.

I can only be hopeful that this is not the diagnosis. I say this because I helped a breeder, by taking a tiny yorkie that she DID very much love but couldn't care for any longer. I basically brought her home to let her die. We all were sure she would only last a month at best.

They had thought she had liver shunt but she didn't. She could take maybe a step or two then fall. Have little 'jerks' and twist strangly. After all the tests (the breeder did this during the 8 mos she had her). Then after x-rays they determined it was her cerebreal area of her brain that was damaged either in the womb or during birth. Basically, she has cerebrial palsy. She was 3 in June!! She is my miracle baby. She walks funny, slowly, and is fragile. She is silly and squeeks instead of barks but thinks she is a big dog. She is healthy and all I can say is a blessing in my life. She pees on a pad, weighed 1.2 lbs when I got her and is 1.8 now!

GeorgiaOnMyMind 10-07-2008 12:01 PM

Oh my! That is wonderful for you! I hope and pray that little Vinny, whatever his diagnosis is, has a wonderful outcome too. It makes me feel better just knowing that he has Kaity to help him through this.

These two little ones are so blessed to be taken care of and loved so unconditionally by their families. You are both their angles for these little miracle babies!

God Bless each of you!

butterfly 10-07-2008 12:52 PM

I am hoping to hear something about the little guy today.

It seems we get very attached to these babies.

I wanted to also say that I found massaging my tiny was really good for her. She seemed to really respond well to that because they don't move as much as other dogs they need to have all those little muscles and joints moved for them sometimes. Anyway, maybe it sounds strange but I believe it.

Gingergirlsmom 10-07-2008 03:21 PM

Awww, what a cute, sweet little guy!

Bless you for all you are doing for him. He's lucky that YOU are the one who found him.

SassyAnn101 10-07-2008 06:49 PM

:wub: Oh I'm In Love, What a sweet little face, and those eyes, He is something special. Please let us know what the vet finds out about this baby. I will do all I can to help you get this baby to UT if he has a Liver Shunt or something else UT has experience in. Bless this baby, He is lucky that he has you

GeorgiaOnMyMind 10-07-2008 07:05 PM

That is great!

What a great idea! I don't think it's strange at all, everyone loves massages. Something so simple, but yet, will do wonders for him and for her.

About 2 weeks ago we stumbled on the above post. This person was selling 3female rescues that were obvious breeder females. I believe this is linked to Jeff Danes as well. Take a look at this link.

He's probably on here right now.
