| pectus excavatum I wrote a few months ago about my aunt's Yorkie who had something protruding out by the bottom of her ribcage. Well, she took her to the vet today and they told her it was pectus excavatum. I looked on the net and it seems that this is when the chest is sucked in. Zoie's is the opposite! Something is sticking out of her chest. I'm no vet, but this diagnosis seems weird. I thought it was a hernia, but the vet (who was young my aunt said) said it wasn't a hernia. Anyone know about this defect?

| I don't know if you remember but a few months ago I felt a "lump" right at the base of Sunshine's ribcage. It was a hard lump that I never felt before. So when I took her to the vet, they did a biopsy. They said it was a type of lympoma. Then it seemed to go away. Then a couple of weeks late I felt it again. Well last week she had to have her teeth cleaned so the vet (a different one in the same vets office) said it would be a good lime to remove the "lympoma" although this vet did not think that was what it was. She was 90% sure it was a hernia. Bottom line was, she did have it fixed.. it was a hernia that was cause from when she had her c-section almost 2 yrs ago.

| has she ever had any surgery in the abdomin area? like being spayed? The vet explained to me that anytime you cut into the abdomin there is a risk of a hernia because the internal sutures sometimes don't hold.. especially if the dog is very active shortly after the surgery. She said that then there may be a small opening inside the abdomin wall that causes a hernia BTW.. as much as I like the FIRST vet who thought it was a lympoma.. she also told me it was too high to be a hernia and wasn't from her c-section or spay because it was too high..

| This is NOT Zoie. But until I get a pic, see this site: Pug Forum - Chinese Pugs - normal pug anatomy?

Is it possible that the chest is sucked in at the top instead of curving out as it should be and because the top is sucked in it makes the bottom look like it is protruding more than normal?
