Senior Yorkie Talker | soft bloody stool My brother who lives next door to me has a 4 month old morkie named Lilly, who is Polo's sister (Polo is my morkie). Lilly always plays together with my Polo and Chanel my yorkie, but now I'm afraid to let them play for Lilly has been having soft bloody stools and I don't know if it's contagious or not. I told my sister in law that I dont' think it's a good idea to let them play until Lilly gets checked by the vet tommorrow. I know that sounds kind of mean, but I 'm just worried that she might get my babies sick too not knowing why she is pooping soft with some blood. I pray for Lilly to get better and hope that when she goes to the vet it's not serious. Does anyone have any suggestions? Do you think it's ok to let them play together? What could the soft bloody stool be a sign off? |

My furkids Donating Member | maybe she ate something she shouldn't have? Maybe her food? or it could be something more serious. I'm not sure if worms could cause bloody stools...that would be something I would be concerned about...If it were me...I would probably keep them separated until she has her vet checked....just to be on the safe side. I hope she is going to be ok.

| Sounds like when mine had a bacterial infection in his gastrointestinal tract. The vet said that it could pass to another animal through contact with the stool. You might want to keep them apart for now, even if it's not an infection, just to be safe. |

I agree to keep them separate for now. Oscar had a coccidia infection which caused him to have the same kind of stool you are describing. All it takes is one spore to infect another dog, so better to know what you're dealing with before letting the pups play together.

Don't know if that was related to her eating the chicken or something else. She had bloody diarrhea a few days after and then it just got soft with less blood in it. I have been away in New York for my husband's uncle funeral and just found out shortly about Lilly when we returned. I told my sister in law that she should have taken her in the vet before but she just thought that Lilly was getting the blood from the irritation from having too much diarrhea. It's been almost a week, it has been a bit more solid but still soft with a bit of blood. I suggested for her to take her to the vet to make sure she is ok. Lilly's daily food is a mixture of Purina Puppy Chow and Puppy Eukanuba Polo is on that same food as well. I also got my year old yorkie Chanel on the same food for she shares the same bowl as Polo. I hope I'm doing the right thing.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | I would keep them separated until a fecal test is performed - this could be giardia or something. But, since giardia can have a long latency - it may be a moot point anyway, if she has it. Still, it's a good thing to keep them separated. Btw, you might also consider switching them to a premium kibble. The food you have them on now has a lot of fillers and allergens and could cause problems down the road. Just plantin' a little seed there.
