Toy breeds are supposed to stay with their parents until they're at least 10 weeks old, but most breeders reccomend 12 weeks. It's very important for their socialization skills and sometimes even their health. If you got him from a pet store, he is probably from something called a puppy mill, which is basically a farm where dogs are kept in cages their whole lives and bred over and over again for the pups to be sold to pet stores. It's awful. These puppies are taken from their parents at a VERY scary young age of probably about 4-6 weeks old and taken to pet stores sometimes in trucks FULL of other possibly sick pups. It's ok if you got him from a pet store, because you may not have known about puppy mills but you do not want to get a puppy from a pet store in the future. But take him to the vet right away (your best bet would be a vet that specializes in small dogs) and have him tested for liver shunt, parvo, etc. It may just be that your dog is just a little sick...but you want to err on the side of caution. Good luck to you! I hope you stay on YT and keep us updated on your pup!

| Do you see any blood in the stool? Puppies can have coccidea and a stressful situation (grooming??) can cause the parasite to shed into the bowel. He should see the vet. If the vet can't get hin in soon at least take a sample of the stool top the vet. They can do a quick check for you. Keep the puppy hydrated with water or pedialyte and be sure that he is eating. If not, use Kayro Syrup or Nutrical and get him to the vet As others have said , it is always best to keep new puppies home until they have had all their shots. It's tempting to want to take them out to Petsmart and visit other friends with animals but it for their safety. Good luck and keep us posted.

| I hope she took that little baby to the Vet. Doesn't sound like she really understands how important it is not to take the babies out till they have had all their shots. I hope the little guy is ok. Megan may have touched on something that scared her/him away.

OP, I hope you know I wasn't trying to lecture you or anything! A LOT of people buy their pets from pet stores cause they don't know the dangers. I'm not trying to frighten you, but it is necessary that you take your pup to the vet (even if you don't come back and tell us). I had a puppy that I got from a pet store (a yorkie) and he started acting sick after a trip to the groomer, and he died about 2 weeks later. PLEASE be on top of this and get to the vet ASAP! I sincerely hope that it all works out perfectly for you and the vet can get your puppy on some meds that will help him feel better soon!

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Any update? I would take him to the vet asap. My concern is that the groomer expressed the anal glands improperly and something may have burst. Or, giardia. Either way, a vet trip really is a must.

| I sent this OP a PM yesterday with a link regarding coccidia and encouraged her to get her puppy to the vet ASAP. I have really been concerned about this puppy because I saw how fast this can affect a puppy. Keeping them in my prayers. LOVEYORKIE~~~Please keep us posted.

And if you're close enough to your dog to be able to hit it the instant after it pees...then as another person said a while back...you should take a news paper, roll it up, and hit YOURSELF over the head with it for not taking your dog outside!
