| Sick from recalled vaccine... Detox? Ok sorry this is about my sister's chihuahua... Here is the story... She was given a recalled rabies vaccine from fort dodge. She now has lost a huge patch of her hair... her skin has turned grey and her ears are turning black... the vet said that this recalled vaccine causes the blood vessels to collapse and kills hair follicles in the area of injection. Her ears were starting to die because the blood vessels have collapsed... She was doing better on some medications, but she seems to be loosing more hair and her skin is turning grey again. Has anyone given their small yorkie an herbal detox? Do you think this could help? any advice would be greatly appreciated

Donating YT 10K Club Member | I don't have any information on herbal detox. I'd give the vet that gave the vaccination...a good talkin' to if it were my dog...I'll say that. I hope she gets better.

| She was a traveling vet and when it was given there wasn't a recall... Our other vet we go to now says that the dosage for the rabies vaccine is too much for small dogs...

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | I don't want to cause terrible alarm, but when a part of the body truly loses its blood supply and actually "dies", gangrene can set in and cause massive systemic infection. Has the vet warned you of symptoms or next steps or what to look for? I mean, what is the plan for the little ears? Perhaps there is some tiny capillary blood still getting to the ears, but if they're black, I'm really concerned. I think you probably want to bring him in again. Is Fort Dodge paying for all of this, bc they should be, shouldn't they?

| My furbaby had a delayed vaccine reaction, which caused many side effects, including black ears. She was finally diagnosed by a Vet Dermatologist and given two kinds of medicine. I am not sure if this is the same thing, but please make sure your sister's dog gets help soon. I wrote a thread about it a couple of weeks ago, under Vaccines and Vasculitis, which you can find under search. I am sorry I do not know how to make a link to the thread. Good luck, I hope things go well.

| Those vaccinations were recalled back in 2006 I thought. I have to wonder if the vet could be held accountable because of it. I hope she gets better soon.
