| My Molly has gone through so much(long) I posted last month about my baby having luxating patella. She had the operation on July 23 and was doing wonderful. Last Monday she started having a little diarrhea. I was worried but she seemed to be fine. She was eating well and was active. Tuesday wasn't too bad and she seemed to be doing better. On Wednesday her bowel movements were starting to be partially solid and I was feeling better about everything. That evening she was sitting on the couch with me and she jumped up and ran. I looked down and she had passed a big blood clot. My husband was working, and I don't drive, so I ran to a neighbor and we rushed her to the vets. They did a rectal exam and she started to bleed heavily. I was in hysterics. The wanted me to take her to a specialist about 1 1/2 hours away. I has no way to get her there and no money to pay for it. I would do anything for her , but we had just payed for the other operation, and I simply did not have it. The vet kept her and put her on IV fluids and antibiotics. They did not think should would make it because they thought she had a rectal tear. I cried all night Wednesday. Well Thursday she was doing better with no bleeding but the Vet thought she might still crash. By Friday she was seemingly fine, she was eating normal and was happy and active. We picked her up Friday evening. She finally had a bowel movement after we brought her home and it was normal. She is only eating Iams low residue, and is taking amoxitabs and metro. The vet is baffled and not sure what it was. Maybe HG, but there is usually not that much blood loss with that. Does anyone know of any other cases like this? I am just praying that she stays healthy, I really was sure I was going to lose her. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Oh my gosh, how terrifying. Did you see the sticky above where you can get help with vet bills? I wonder if you could get some help and maybe take to another vet to get looked over - otherwise, I'd be nervous this may happen again. Did they do a blood panel after this happened? I assume this was bright blood coming from her? One small thing to do is to really make sure she is VERY well hydrated to avoid hard poos and constipation - you don't want her straining at all. So, I'd get a premium canned dog food and add some to her feedings so she obtains extra moisture and too avoid constipation. I'm so sorry you're going through this - I would really want an answer if I were you.

| It good be HG, our Yorkie didn't pass much blood but she did throw up alot. My opinion what brings on HG is: Hot weather and stress. Hope she stays well. Quote:

| OMG. This mus tbe so scary. I am so sorry for all this. it seems strange that it would just goaway. I know it can be financially difficult, but you have to know what's going on with her. You don't wnt somethign to go unchecked and god forbid have it happen again. |

| Thanks for the replys. The vet now believes it was HG because that is what they treated for and she is doing wonderful now. We are going to keep her on the IAMS low residue for a week or so. I am going to talk to the vet about maybe getting a scope done when we can save up the money, just to be sure. |

| Did your vet do bloodwork? HGE is pretty easy to diagnose because the packed volume is high, 60% or higher. Normal is 35-55. Lady just had HGE a few months ago. I am so sorry Molly has been through so much. I hope she feels better soon. |

| If she's eating now the HG is gone and Bloodtest will show normal, the Vet. should have her on some antibiotics and a medicine that will help with any Nausea. It took Maya 2 Days at the reg. Vet and 2 days at an emergecy vet, not to mention a whole lot of money but they are worth every penny. We also had Maya on a bland diet for 5 days after the HG episode. Now she's back to normal and is rulling the house once more! I hope your little one has a speedy recovery. |
