| My baby is sick hi all im new to yorkie talk. My little baby yorkie who is 11 months go sick on friday. I assumed she was going into heat again cause she was bleeding but she just seemed to get more lethargic so i rang the emergency vet on saturday. The vet said once she was eating and drinking she would be ok and check back with him tomorrow. She didnt seem to get any better so i brought her to the vet today and she was diagnosed with open pyometra. She is overnight in the vets now but she cant have emergency surgery yet because her temperature is too high. I'm so sick with worry can anyone give me any advice please. Thanks |

| thanks for all the prayers. Ive been looking up pyometra and it can happen in any female dog that is not spayed, it usually happens 6-8 weeks after they heat. It is when the womb fills with pus and causes a really bad infection thats life threating. I was so afraid to get her spayed but please take my advice and get any female dog that you dont want to breed spayed beacuse this can stop any chance of them getting pyometra. My poor little girl is so sick now ` |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | I am so sorry she is sick. Roxie came into heat 3 days before her scheduled heat and she was not feeling well the last week or so I took her in a few days ago and she has a false pregnancy. So I second that get them spayed before they go into heat. I will pray your little one makes a quick recovery.

Phantom Queen Morrigan Donating Member | I'm sorry to hear that your girl has a pyometra. i don't understand why they aren't taking her to surgery right away. of course she is going to have a fever, she has a raging infection in her uterus. Surgery should be preformed asap. Once the body cavity is open the temp will surely go down. after surgery, fluids and antibiotics can be administered to treat the infection and subsequently the fever will go down. Good luck to your little girl in surgery. I hope things go well. i'm sorry you have to learn about the positives of spaying in this negative way. Hopefully others will learn from this. its much easier to have your healthy puppy spayed at 6 months then have to put them thru a pyo or worse.
