Phoebe has gone blind 1 Attachment(s) Phoebe is not a Yorkie, but my beautiful mini schnauzer. She is almost 12 yrs old. She has diabetes and takes insulin 2X a day. She has gone almost completely blind in a matter of a few days. She has cloudy eyes (cataracts) but her eyesight has just gone in the last few days. She walked right off into the pool yesterday with us watching her. She has an appointment with the vet today at 1:45. I am so sad that she is deteriorating. She has survived cancer and now diabetes. I guess I don't really need any help, just some hugs! Here is her pic back in her glory days! |
Ahhh Phoebe is just beautiful and she is still her her glory days in your eyes!! That is so sad and I know it must be breaking your heart. Let us know what the doctor says.:( |

What a regal girl your Phoebe is. A real beauty. I am so very sorry that she is having health problems related to her age. It is so very hard living with an elderly furbutt with health issues. I am there, doing that now. Sending Phoebe get well wishes AND you hugs  |
This is the time we all dread, when they get older and fail. That is so very sad, however, if her health is ok she will get use to being sightless, as sad as that is and find her way around. My neighbor has a 13yrs old Mini Schanuzer also and she is in cardiac arrest. Buddy's girlfriend. They walk her in a baby carriage and try to keep her from being tired. She has failed so in the last month. It's very sad to see. I hope your baby stays healthy and adjusts. Hugs, |
She was a beauty in that pic. I know you need hugs. Here they are!:justahug: |
Ohh. Hugs to you and to your baby. She is gorgeous and it is plain to see you love her very much. |

sending you many hugs and positive vibes |
hugs going your way! our puggy lived his last year or so blind. I was careful to leave furniture where it had been (no dramatic rearranging!) and paid special attention to whether or not he found his food. We lost him of liver failure after 14 loving and adventurous years. This is a special time for your sweet companion--enjoy it. :heart to |
awwww she's beautiful! I wish our babies could live with us forever! I hate watching and hearing them age, its sooo sad! (((HUGS))) to you! |
Awww...that precious baby. Hugs to you, Phoebe. |
Many, many hugs to you and Phoebe. She sounds like a fighter. My first thought when I saw her pic was just as Chattiesmom said - Regal. She is absolutely gorgeous. Prayers to you, Phoebe, that the Dr. will tell you that you can go home and enjoy alot more time with your family. |

I joke to people I will be buying her a eye seeing person soon. She still loves life and enjoys her treats that I literally put in her mouth as she cannot see them. Your little girl is beautiful and just be happy you will be able to help her age gracefully. Hugs to you and her, Jeri :ghug: |
1 Attachment(s) Is this how Phoebe's eyes look? |
 |
She is beautiful, my prayer's is with her. |
Phoebe is beautiful!!! I am sorry, I know it is painful and hurts your heart to see her lose functions. Have faith that she will continue to do well. I have a Bichon who just turned 14 and he lost his sight completely almost 1 1/2 years ago, and he has been diabetic over 2 years now and on 2x insulin shots as well. He just recently began to lose his hearing as well. It is hard to watch them lose their sight, but they adapt very well! Bailey (my boy) learned to use his nose very well to get around! I don't change things around in the house much, if I do, I work with him for a couple days to let him know what is different, and he adapts quickly. Just wanted to offer you support and hugs and we understand how you are feeling :hug: |
If it's any consolation, most diabetic dogs go blind and most within the first 6-9 months after diagnosis while they may still not be regulated and have high blood sugar. Has Phoebe recently been diagnosed? My Lady has been a diabetic for seven years. She is one of the rare few who has kept her eyesight. I learned to check her blood sugar myself early on which I highly recommend. It is the key to successfully managing diabetes and avoiding the physical complications of the disease. Lady still has no kidney damage or any of the other classic problems associated with diabetes. Schnauzers especially are prone to diabetes and loss of eyesight. They have "fatty" blood (high lipids) which can collect behind the eye. Do take her to the vet and make sure she is regulated. High blood sugar causes all sorts of problems besides blindness. If she is recently diagnosed, she should be going in for regular curves if you aren't checking her blood sugar at home. |
