here is some info, nothing recent on dog food.....

deaths and illness with no recall

this is more recent (2008), but is referencing excess of aflatoxin in horse feed.....

I joined that forum and posted on there. I made a complaint to Consumer Affairs today also. I am going to call a local lab on Monday to see if they can do a neocropsy on both dogs. Since they are frozen I don't know if they can.

The uncertainty of the quality of dog food is why I chose to feed Bailey a homemade diet of HUMAN grade food. I make a big batch and freeze it up for convenience. Its no trouble at all.

thats just so horrible! i feel so bad for you all, and for the dogs. you work a hard job-i couldnt do it, i would want to take them all home lol. hats off to you! i hope you can get an answer and get a necropsy on the remains, and get the food tested. its just too coincidental that the bigger dogs had bleeding, and then the little guy was hit hard. it has to be something in common that is used with all of them-i.e. the food.

i would definately follow up on this! It makes me sick to think it was the food , and the food possibly toxic.

This is horrible!!! I'm just so upset at this. I'd call all the other shelters and let them know what happen and what they were fed. I'm so sorry!!

We called some of the local vets and the emergency vet. They said they don't know of any food related issues. We haven't heard back form the lab we contacted about doing the autopsy so I don't know if we can get it done. We will try to call the other shelters tomorrow. I spoke to some people who do rescue and they haven't had any problems either. We get food from a food bank so maybe they some bad bags from the recall before. I don't know.

This kinda answers my question.. i was going to ask if it was donated by a person. There are some sick people out there and who knows what one could do to a bag of food.. Where does the food bank get their food??

They get it from a Petco and a few other distribution places. A lot of local rescues and shelters get food from them.

Petco had some sort of recall a month or so ago. I dont remember what the issue was but I know its posted on YT somewhere.

Really? I didn't know that I am going to the food bank tomorrow to talk to the woman who runs it. Maybe she has heard complaints from other people. I hope if she had she would have told us!

We spoke to the people at the foodbanktoday. They said nobody else has complained about the food. I don't know what to think but we threw out all the ProPlan food we had.
