Rose this is just terrible. I almost tested my litter too, and then saw so much negative about it that I didn't. I'm so grateful that you posted your story and shared it with us. Thank you. You may have saved other puppies' lives.

As for those who carry on about BAT testing puppies, I hope this shuts them up for good.

I think its a good thing you posted what you went thru so others who question this can read.
Those who may be looking for a new puppy and those who push for this type of testing.
My little Lea who passed away a few months ago is playing with teaser now at Rainbow Bridge .
He wouldnt want his Mama so sad.

Rose, I am so very sorry for your loss...I am also so very leery of a vet who would suggest fasting a A-sympotmatic litter of puppies, some under 2 pounds..and then drawing the amount of blood needed for a BA..

Simply make a contract stating you will pay for a 6 month BA test and you will refund the puppy cost if it has a shunt..they can keep the puppy.

PS.... I only fast a 3 to 4 pound adult for 6 hrs before a dental or S/N etc...

Some puppies do require a bile acid test though. Pickiness, lethargy, not responding to Nutri-cal, etc. needs to be checked out more thoroughly.

Thank you Rose for sharing your story.
I'm so sorry you lost your little boy and I know you are heartbroken.
By sharing your story you will save other puppies from being put through this.
Maybe some these non breeders who are so quick to spout off at the mouth and tell others not to buy from someone, because they are not reputable if they don't run these tests.
Will now keep there mouths shut.

I am so very sorry for your unexpected loss.:( Please dont beat yourself up over this. You didnt know and neither did the vet and you truely had the puppies best interests at heart. This has definately become an eye opener and a learning experience. I am sorry you had to go through this.

thank you all i still think we should ba test just have to wait it out unless
the pup is sickly

at least i know even with teaser being so small his test were good
that is the only bright thing i have to look at

Your a careful breeder, and a good one. :aimeeyork Please do not blame yourself. I would buy from you. It takes an exceptional breeder to make certain that Your puppies are helathy, and there is no future problems.:aimeeyork

I'm really sorry but I hope that it saves others from making the same mistake. I would not hesitate to buy a puppy from you, I wholehearedly believe you are a reputable breeder and you prove that by standing behind you puppies with a guarantee. I'm just sorry that other less knowledgeable people made you feel like you had to do this testing right now.:(

I'm so sorry you lost your little one. I had my adults tested but never my puppies. Thanks you for the information as I know I will never get a puppy tested.

Your loss is terrible but maybe you have given some of us a heads up to NOT test our puppies no matter what.

Poor Teaser!! This is awful! Don't know much about this test but now see how harsh it is for the lil pups!!:(

Rose, I am so very sorry for your loss!

I just wanted to say that I agree with everything said, and I'm glad you posted this so that others may learn.
Don't beat yourself up, you were told you were doing the right thing by a few opinionated posters that were condemning breeders for not testing puppies. Telling everyone is wasn't a big deal... It IS a big deal to test puppies! Just the process of the test is terrible! We do need to test, but not at such a young age.

Hon, we need to keep this thread going and alive.. so we can get some adamite people to back off.. when they have not bred or have not had to make this awful choice.. as threads always say do not buy unless a bat is done on puppy before hand.. what they should be saying is make sure you go to a respectable breeder that has had healthy babies with no issues and will give a guarantee...this is so horrible.. and I was loving teaser more and more each time a pic was posted..
But now we need to get the right words out to so many many people.. and this thread will be a good one to post the link to for this needed to know this that are posting and obviously did not see this.. thanks anne
