| Obessive Paw Licking My 3 year Old Yorkie has recently started licking her left front paw and has been doing it on and off for days. What could be the reason for this sudden habit and how can I get her to stop. Should I be concerned? Thanks Cindy and Gracie

| This is the time of year for allergies to begin, perhaps she is itchy. Could also be boredom. Have a vet check her out before she ends up with skin infection from licking too much.

| Reggie is a notorious paw licker. His is mainly due to allergies I believe. It used to be worse, but a change to better food helped immensely. When he was on raw food (Steve's Real Food), it was definitely the most improvement. At night, when we're in bed and he starts that, I warn him that he will be kicked out of bed if he doesn't stop it.

| Its definitely allergies...from what it sounds like. Did you change food recently or try new treats? If so, go back to what you were doing and it will most likely stop fairly quickly. If its just normal outdoor allergies, check with a vet. They can definitely lick themselves raw and cause more problems.

| It's not definately allergies. I have a 10 year old who has been doing this for many years. He has been tested and seen by several vets. His is a nervous habit and I was told not to try to stop him as he will just do something else. It is liked to nail biting in a person. It is , of course possible it could be allergies but all the vets said there is usually another indicator found beside the one habit |

| I have been putting a baby sock on it, and as soon as it comes off within mintues i will see her doing it again. She hasn't gone to doing something else yet to replace that habit. Is the sock a bad idea.???

| Dogs will lick when in pain too, it's theraputic to them. Has she jumped off of anything or maybe sprained her foot while playing? Does she have any arthritis ussues? Does her foot feel warm/hot when it's dry? Before jumping to conclusions or keep her from licking I would check with my vet to make sure her foot is o.k...especially since she's only licking one foot. |

Donating YT 10K Club Member | It could be an irritation from something she's walked in. My mother's dog got some type of mite in her pads from walking in the yard where geese were present. The vet gave her medication to clear it up.
