Our yorkie doesn't have kidney problems, but one of my schnauzers does. She is on the k/d (which I hate anything Science Diet puts out) but the vet said he has seen it turn k.d. around. I also feed them all Welliness and Innova. I usually feed Mandy K/d once a day and the Welliness for her next meal. Its hard to know what to do and who to trust. All we can do is try to do the best for our babies. When they get sick it is awful what you can go through. Our little Max was sick for 2yrs. from diabetes. Two shots a day plus trying to feed him the right foods. It had to be just on time and you have to really be dedicated to take care of a sick animal. But, I would do it all over again and still am with Mandy. We just try to feed them the best food we can.

Oh my heart is breaking for you!!! is there any way you can get a copy of the labs and get a second opinion??? I have heard of BUN sometimes being in the 300+ range. And gosh, I know the vet bills add up but is there any way you can get a second opinion or be referred to a specialist? I mean vets CAN be wrong! I am not trying to give you false hope but our last 2 vets had made HUGE mistakes. I'm serious. We saw the specialist and he didn't even know where to start with us my babies had been on so many meds. I have posts everywhere on yt. Oh hun- hang in there and I hope you can get a second opinion. i know how much your baby means to you or researched anything about kidney disease? Renal failure? Have you checked out this link? Someone sent this to me and I learned a lot about diet and gosh just so much. we are also dealing with kidney issues so I have been spending every spare minute learning all i can. specialist visits can be about 120.00 just to look at the file and labs. It was the best money we ever spent for our girls! Be strong and don't give up hope. That would not be ok with me. I would want a second opinion or to see a specialist. no way- I don't give up easy. Saying prayers for you and Mitzi. I pray she will be ok for a lot longer than just a "matter of time" hugs!!!!!! http://www.b-naturals.com/newsletter/kidney-diet/ Last edited by sadiesamie; 04-08-2008 at 02:52 PM.

I would definitely be getting a second opinion. No pres diet.. talk with a nutritionist.. hate pres dog food. hate hate hate HATE it!!! it is not good for our babies. a nutrionist will help you!! please don't give up. chasing geese??? hmmm. i can honestly say if you baby was that bad and was chasing geese? no- i won't believe she is that far into this disease unless she is sick. Sick and vomiting... second opinion big time. I don't want to upset you bc there could be other issues going on here- but I think it would be definitely worth a second opinion. I sent you some links and they are LOADED with info on how to read labs and diets and all kinds of important things we need to know and try when dealing with kidney issues. I would also get on line and join this group. you have to set up an account (free) and also explain to them why you want to join. I am in the process of joining myself. http://pets.groups.yahoo.com/group/K9KidneyDiet/

Have they done a UPC test? Urine Protein Creatinine.. Is she on any meds? Losing any protein? Oh gosh I hope she will be ok. DId he say her kidneys are failing or kidney disease? Dogs can live with kidney failure and be on special diet so that their kidneys don't have to work as hard. I don't know what the labs look like and I am axiously waiting to get approved on the k9 yahoo site. I have read that they are very helpful. they will need to know lab values to assist you in any way they can.

Sonya, I'm so sorry to hear that Mitzi is not improving. I am hoping there will still be some help for her. She has blessed you with a long friendship. It would be nice if she could improve and continue that friendship for a while longer. I'm sending up prayers for all of you and little Monday too!
