| Caution to take before Vacs Hi there, Tia has not yet had her vaccinations the vet said to wait a week until I bring her in, so that will be saturday/ sunday. I obviously do not take her outside but what about when I come in from outside do I need to take any precautions? like shall I change my clothes before I go near her. Also she licks EVERYTHING - she tried to lick my shoes, bf's laces etc which I think can be dangerous - is it? She catches something what do I need to look out for/ symptoms? TIA |

YT 2000 Club Member | Call me crazy but when we got Maggy May, for the longest time I always washed my hands before touching her, but she was really sick when we got her to and I didn't wanna risk passing something else onto her. I kept her in my bedroom for the first few weeks until she could start getting her shots, I'd only bring her out if I was carrying her. No one was allowed to wear there shoes in my bedroom and if anyone wanted to touch her, they had to wash there hands as well. I know parvo can live on shoes, floors and what not a very long time so I did the best I could and took the precautions I felt I need to to no carry anything into Maggy May. There were times I actually DID change my clothes before I'd mess with her if I came in contact with other animals that were questionable. Symptoms I would be on the look out for would be diahreahha (sp) or diahreahha (sp) with blood in it, or passing any blood from the bowels at all. Listless expression, lethargy, not eating or drinking pale white or grayish gums, not able to walk or stand or walks and staggers and falls, vomiting, refusing to eat or drink, temp. I'm sure others here will have more symptoms for you to keep an eye out for. For me, it's very important not to take her out anywhere except to the vet until she has all her vaccines, she's got enough to worry about as it is without picking something else up. Oh, and I don't take her outside to the potty either, I use puppy pads for her, I've seen other animals come into our yard and again, I don't wanna take any chances, besides, it's way to cold out right now for her. I'd maybe take your guys shoes off before coming in the house, that way you're not carrying anything into Tia. Good luck!

| I don't know if this is feasible, but I would take off your shoes once you get in the house. I don't think it's necessary to change your clothes and wash your hands but I think shoes can track in a lot of nasty stuff. Franklin got parvo and we never took him outside. We've concluded that we probably tracked it in on our shoes.

| i'm getting worried now. Tia isnt showing any signs of being ill, she has come into any physical contact with any dogs but there was dogs downstairs, shes being out/ downstairs twice (including when we brought her home) - can she contact it by smelling dogs or being in the same vincinity of dogs? I want to get her booked for an apt asap, but the vet says I should wait at least a week after she has come into the home before getting her vaccinated - that will be sunday

| plus it can take up to 10 days for symptons to appear and parvo is more prevalant in black and tan coloured dogs will the Dr/ vet be able to tell straight away whether she has it or not without any signs of any symptons!?

| I'm sorry if I scared you. I highly doubt she has Parvo, don't stress yourself out over it. She can contract it from being where other dogs have been but it's pretty unlikely unless there was a dog with Parvo LIVING in that area.. it's prevalent in their vomit and feces. It's easy to get but pretty unlikely. The vet can do a test at the clinic but it's expensive and not really worth it if she's not showing symptoms. Especially since there's no reason to think she has it. Just keep an eye on her, she'll be fine You're going to be a wonderful mommy. PS -- your baby was born on my birthday!
