I Love My Lil' Punkin's Donating Member | God I am so upset...what do I do!?!?!???? First of all this isn't about any of my babies, or even a dog for that matter. I hope it's ok to post this here but I honestly didn't know where else to post it Hubby and I took the kiddos for a walk today out in my moms neighborhood and on one of the streets we went down, I noticed this poor cat laying by the curb. I went up closer to it so that I could see it and noticed that it was trying to meow and nothing was coming out Then it started walking up to me very slowly and I noticed that it looked soooo skinny and it's eyes were hazy. Also one of it's ears looked like something was wrong with it and it's teeth were all messed up and I think some were missing. It looked to me like it was having trouble breathing and it also looked very old. I feel SO SORRY for this cat I cannot even tell you. We walked the babies back home to my moms house cause they were getting so tired, but after I took them to my moms, I went back over there with food and water to take to the cat. He/she ate some food but didn't drink any water. I just do not know what to do. I am so upset and just about in tears over this. I cannot stand to see that poor cat lay there like that, it is just driving me absolutely crazy but I don't know what to do I called and there is one place here who would take the cat but they said that they will just put it in a gas chamber...OMG! There is no WAY I am ever going to let that happen! I just hung up on them!!! Those people are crazy! I talked to an elderly lady that lived on that street and she said she doesn't even know whos cat it is. She said, "the cat looks like it is trying to die but it just can't die" - omg....how can people be so harsh!! I told her that whoever owned this cat ought to be ASHAMED, that cat needs to see a vet!!! I honestly think that the cat needs to be put to sleep...but I AM NOT going to let them come pick it up and throw it in a gas chamber.....NO WAY. Seriously...I don't know what to do. I am so upset over this...does anyone have any suggestions?? I am going to go back over there in a little while to check on it...I just feel SO helpless

| That is so sad. Could you put it in a box, with an old towel to try to keep it warm, till you figure out what to do. Other than that, I'm sorry I don't have any answers. The SPCA would come and get it here in Canada, but I don't know what happens over there. Sorry I am not very much help, wish I knew of some good advice, I just feel so bad for that poor cat. Jesus they sure are cruel. Maybe your vet will look at him. The last time I took Zoey for shots...a lady came in with a cat in the same situation. The vet took the cat and saw if he/she could be saved. They were able to save it and only charged the lady for the meds they used.

| This is so sad and breaks my heart. There arent many options, I know 3 things that you can do, 1. take her home with you and care for her until you can get her to the vet. 2- bring her a box of some sort like someone said and make her comfortable or 3 call animal control or a someone who will come pick this baby up and more than likely end its life. I know that all these options are hard but theres only so much you can do. If you take her in that would be great but you have to think about your other pets nd if she is sick with anything you and your family can catch. If you do not take her in, maybe she should be put to sleep why have her outside suffering, where some kids or a nasty person can hurt her. I dont know. This whole thing is just to sad, I dont understand why people get pets and just discard them.

Phantom Queen Morrigan Donating Member | if you want, you can take him to a vet and they'll put him to sleep. however they will probably charge you try calling the next towns over to see how they euthanize animals. IV injection should be the only way. all the other ways are horrible.

| Brooke, could you call your vet and explain the situation? I can't see them charging you to put the cat to sleep- as it isn't your animal- but if they did it probably wouldn't be very much.

I Love My Lil' Punkin's Donating Member | Thanks so much you guys for all the suggestions I know there is only so much I can do...I just wish the OWNERS would step up and take care of their animal like they are SUPPOSED to I just HATE that people get animals and love them when they are little and cute, and then just toss them aside when they get old or sick. I'll never understand it I tell you, NEVER. I am going to see about either bringing this baby home with me, or either bringing it over here to my moms house and keep it here, safe, until Monday when I can call the vet. God, I have NEVER had to put an animal to sleep, not even one of my own....now I may have to do it to an animal that I don't even really know This is just SO incredibly heartbreaking for me. Then I think...geez, it's obviously someones cat that lives around here....is it OK for me to just take it and possibly (I'm sure) have it put to sleep? I mean I know the people who "own" the cat are OBVIOUSLY not taking care of it like they should be....I just don't know what to do. I am so confused. I am going to go over there again in a little while and check on it...and will probably bring it back home with me, or to my moms...I hope the poor thing lets me pick it up

Bella Boo & Diggy Too! Donating GS Member | Can I just tell you how many times i have been in this situation???? uggg Its so hard! I usually bring the cat home and keep in the garage....and I take to the vet. i have homed 2 in the last year.....It just depends on if your willing to take the time or not really (and the $$ of course) It's not your responsibility nor should you feel guilty if you chose to not help the cat. I can tell you tho....Its a wonderful feeling when you do help. Both cats are in friends of mines homes and are very well cared for. I hope you feel better as I can tell its tugging at your heart....Im sorry your going thru this and wish you all the best.

| what a sad situation. I think the gas chamber is cruel. I feel for the poor baby. If I were there I would take the poor kitty in and nurse it back to health. But I would first take it to a vet to make sure it was disease free. No sense in exposing your babies to something. Keep us posted.

Donating YT 7000 Club Member | aww Brooke I'm sorry. Bless you for doing what you can to help him/her. I would suggest calling your vet and explaining the situation...see what they can do. Gas chambers need to be outlawed. They're so sick. I don't know the answer about whether its OK to take it or not, but my advice is to not really care about that. Whoever "owns" this cat doesn't give a crap about it...so just take it (if you can). If by some very tiny, small chance this "owner" comes forward, threaten them with every animal neglect/abuse thing you can, and more than likely they'll back down. Best of luck to you!
