She walked in circles part of the time. They did x-rays but the those kind of x-rays didn't show anything. Lucy wasn't like your little Cosmo, she didn't improve at all. My vet recommended a neurosurgeon, because these are all neurological symptoms. I called the neurologist and made the appointment(I didn't need a referal). I told them when I made the appointment that I was concerned about AAS, because I had been reading about it on one of my forums and that people on my forum were incouraging me to have her checked out. When they vet walked into the room, she was chuckling when she said, "I hear you have been on the internet". But she didn't chuckle long after she started examining her. She was having x-rays and CT scans before you could say boo and her injury was so serious that she went directly to emergency surgery following the CT scans.

I talked to the neurologist today and she told me that when the surgeon saw the extent of her injury he wondered how she could still be alive let alone walking. A small bone in the top vertebrae was pressing 3/4 of the way into her spinal cord, causing neurological symptoms and severe pain. It was also cutting off the flow of the spinal fluid to her brain causing her to have a severe headdache.

Val and Vicki know what they are talking about. Maybe your vet is right and it is vestibular, but why take the chance that he is wrong. There is nothing to lose by having a neurologist check it out, even if he finds no neurological problem. There's also nothing wrong with being able to tell him what you want him to check for in particular. On the other hand if you wait, you could be risking permanent damage or worse.

Im saddended cosmo hasn't seen a neurologists yet... my heart goes out to the mommy and cosmo.. My prayer is she gets a referral and gets this baby seen immediately! no time to wait no time to spare

Here's hoping Cosmo is fine. ~hugs~

You have many more experienced YTers replying, but you said one thing that I wanted to mention. You said that you didn't tell your vet that you were researching on line or talking to others about a possible diagnosis.

I understand - and some doctors and vets will roll their eyes at that. BUT a good doctor or vet will commend you for doing your own research. And I have seen in action when a question based on personal research or recommendation from a friend is actually the "aha" moment for the doctor.
..... and even if all your "help" is way off base, a good vet or doctor will understand where your anxiety is coming from and take extra care to rule out those possibilities.

It's great to "let him do his thing" but don't be afraid to speak up. If you want a referral to a neurologist, you can ask for one. Now, if there are money concerns, I'm sure you can get suggestions to help in that area, or if you truly don't believe it necessary, that's a different issue, but don't not ask for a referral if you truly feel that would be beneficial.

Best of luck.

I sure hope you will just call every neurologist office & demand an appt. - let them know that you've been to 2 vets & you don't think you're getting thru to them & are afraid they are missing something.

Please heed the advice of Val, Vicki & Janice. Just get him there - if for nothing else but your own piece of mind. This is potentially very serious!

Please act in the best interest of Cosmo.

Prayers for healing

That is exactly what my vet said when Sam fell and look at him now 100% normal again.

I know everyone is concerned about aas/aai and i understand why they are because they have been down that road. But i on the other hand have been down the road with Sam that you are on with Cosmo right now. We have talked many times and everything that i have told you that Sam went through or what you have told me Cosmo has went through are one in the same. Sam had every single symptom that little Cosmo had down to the everything normal but the head tilt. And after time that also went away to where he is now 100% normal. And everything your regular vet has told you is what my vet told me. I know many want you to go see a neurosurgeon but i am going to be the odd ball here and tell you that within a week or so you will more than likely see a difference in him. It has only been a week and 3 days since he fell i personally would give it until it has been 2 weeks before i get alarmed. I am sure like with Sam that the head tilt also gets a little better everyday and i am sure by week two you will not be able to notice it at all and if you do you will have to look really close to see it. So against everyone else my opinion is he is improving alot right? Then i personally would continue to let him improve because i am 99.9% sure he will just like little Sam did. Just my 2 cents.

Marcella,
I'm praying like heck for my little buddy. For what it's worth, Cornell is about 45 minutes from me. If there's anything I can do to help, just let me know. We want Cosmo back to his old self again. Big hugs!

Oh me to it is wonderfull when it is something that just takes a little time compared to going through AAI/AAS. I know what what you had to go through with little Bleu and what all poor little babybear went through it is just heartbreaking. Oh and now little Lucy going through it but she was really lucky she had you guys there to lead her . And i never thought i would say this about another YT member but i to am hoping you guys are wrong. Oh that sounds horrible but we all know that being wrong this time would be a great thing . Vicki hun i have to tell you that you truely have a heart of gold and you have been a real blessing to so many on YT. I love reading your posts they are all so filled with so much love. I just want to send a big hug to you for caring about yet another little baby. Oh and i never would have said anything on this about it being just something that takes time but little Cosmo is mirroring everything that my little Sam did so lets all pray that continues to happen and he is back 100% in no time like Sam was.

I amd still praying for little Cosmo and i have faith that he will be back to him old self in no time

hugs
Mary

Mary~

You have such a sincere heart and it seems if a person directly goes through something we are more passionate about it...

I feel your worry your heart and your emotions for Cosmo.. Isn't it something that we are able to feel such connections? I know it is for me....

I know this it takes a real woman to stand up and go against others in their opinion and this is a VERY GOOD THING.....I am glad you did...

Now all the information is out there and everything happens for a reason!

We will just have to let GO and let GOD... It is all we can do.....

I know I hope the best for Cosmo.... Do not feel bad for putting your heart out there because you are only doing what you know to do which is what I have done..... If it turns out Cosmo heals with time .. The next time something comes up you know what I will do .. I will share your story cosmo's story and Bleu and babybear and try to cover all avenues.... We are doing the best we can do and to me that is what counts.....

Im happy Sam is doing so well..... I pray Cosmo follows right in his footsteps !

I am just in tears over your post once again. Everything you said it so true and it does amaze me everyday how connected i feel for each of these sick or hurt little babies. I feel like i would if they were one of my own that i was caring for. I never thought that it would be possible to feel this way but it is a wonderful and sometimes heartbreaking thing.

God has definitely gave you a gift your words speak so much emotion and wisdom (you are another of my new hero's). I wish i had only a fraction of your gift. You are a wonderful woman with so much love that it can be felt by everyone even half way around the world.

I want to thank you so much for not taking my post as a neg. because it definitely was not meant neg. towards anyone. I like you was just wanting to share my own thoughts and concerns and experience that i had about what could possibly be wrong.

I also want to thank you for your story of Bleu because it has helped many. Not just here on YT but other places to i have told so many people (online friends) who have yorkies about it and there were two that had their babies checked and they had AAS . But because of Bleu and babybear's story those babies are getting the help that they need. Please keep spreading your story and experience with other's because i know it will continue to help many. And as you said i not only share my own but yours, babybear's and hopefully Cosmo's story as well. Not to mention many other's here on YT that have been through other very difficult times with their babies.

And i have to say your are right about what you said in one of your other post "GOD IS GOOD". He has brought us all together to help and teach one another what a wonderful gift.

Hugs
Mary

Vicki i am lost for words girl you are just a angel sent down from god himself.

Marcella has been feeling a little overwhelmed. I am sure you know how horrible this all must be for her and how it can really play with your emotions. I talked to her last night and i think she is going to take some time off and spend it all taking care of little Cosmo and trying to get him better. I will hopefully talk to her again today and find out how he is doing and if she says it is okay i will update for her. That way everyone can know how the little guy is doing and she can get the rest she so desperately needs and deserves. And little Cosmo will get all the mommy time possible

Hugs Hugs and more Hugs
