| Can you get Giardia at the park?? I just found out that Zoey (10 months old) has Giardia. The only place she goes is to the park(reg park not dog park) There are dog droppings in the park but Zoey is leashed and didnt drink any water there. She doesn't even use the bathroom outside.(pee pads) I am suspicious she may have got it at the groomer. I hate to jam up my groomer if she could have contracted it at the park. So for those keeping score. I have one, Chloe, with Kennel cough (from the vaccine) and now one with Giardia. Im ready to pull my hair out. I try to take such good care of them but they both ended up sick

| It's hard to tell where she got it since they get it from contaminated water or coming in contact with an infected dog. If she doesn't drink the water at the park and doesn't play with the other dogs, I think you're right to suspect your groomer. Here's some information about giardia: http://www.canismajor.com/dog/giardia.html |

| Giardia can come from many sources. Most birds are carriers of it and bird droppings are actually the biggest source. If she has walked on any old (even dried up and dusty) bird droppings and then licked her paws - that can do it. The other thing to be aware of is that once your pup has had it, they are more susceptible to getting it again. Unfortunately, we too have had kennel cough (from the vaccine) and two bouts of giardia - all with Sissy!!!!

| My only advice is to wash her paws after a walk. Charlie has a tapeworm, and on Revolution monthly. However, we visited family at Christmas who have one dog & two cats. One cat had fleas and Charlie wanted to lay on big dog's bed. Plus, their yard had a lot of poop on it which was recently cleaned up. I am sure that is where he contracted the flea and then tapeworm. He also walks in the park daily, so I am back to cleaning his paws after each outing. Just like having a little child and the need to wash their hands. Warmly, Deborah

| If your dog goes outside at all she can get it. My dogs are confined to the deck and several times a year we got a huge bird attack (poop) and it never fails they get it. I keep metronidazole on hand at all times so I can start them on it if necessary. |

I'm not sure about Giardia causing a weak stomach. I do know it can cause your pup to become anorexic, so it is important to make sure they still eat. I started giving Sissy yogurt following her first bout as breakfast and that has helped keep her digestive tract healthy.

| They gave her a cortisone shot for swelling and narcotic cough syrup. She was coughing so hard she would yelp in pain. If the cough isn't severe, I don't think they usually do anything but let it run it's course. Hope ur baby feels better soon.

| Poor Chloe... I hope she feels better soon! Did the vet say when she would be better? Lola's cough isn't severe... so i'll let it come and go.
