| Chest Infection Hi ive just come back from the vet as my 2week 4 days old little girl pup had me up all last nite crying. When i looked at her she was gasping for breath and her tongue was blue. I took her to the vet this morning as soon as it was open and he gave her an injection of antibiotics and and injection to help her breathing, telling me that she had an infection on one side of her chest. I asked how she would have got this, informing him i have got a cold and he said she could have got it from me! He also gave me electrolytes incase she dehydrates and said see how she goes in the next few hours and bring her back tomorow. I pray she pulls through. Her 3 sisters are fine. What i want to know is, should i put her back with her sisters or keep her isolated in the little basket she is in now? The roo is very wam. Please help, i dont want to loose her or the others. thanks . xx |

| That poor baby! I'm not an expert but I would think that is she was able to get the infection from you (possibly) then she would be able to give it to the others. I would keep her separate for now and you feed her at least until she goes back tomorrow. Hopefully others who have had this problem will let you know more about what you can do for her

| Dogs don't get colds from people... I would tend to keep her separated.

| chest infection thanks for your replies. As to feeding her, the vet says just give her the elctrolytes till her throat heals up as well. Its been 4 hours since she came back from the vet, she is still making noises with her bathing, like she is srying, oh its so sad. Ive kept her on her own in her little basket, its warm where she is. Mum goes over to her now and again, but is starting to be a bit disinterested in her, i feel the worse when i see that as the mums know. thanks |

| chest infection thanks abbeymom, i did think that the mum might have sat on her, but he checked the pup over after i mentioned mum might have sat on her, he said no, her heart sounds fine, checked with stethascope and said its an infection on one side of her chest and that is why she is breathing the way she is. She is still the same, been spending some time with her and talking to her, Im keeping her out of the litter of 4 as she is to replace mum in 2 years time when mum retires from Breeding. Have already named her Tootsie!!! I thought i would hve seen some improvement since the injections, but i suppose it could take a few more hours. Ill keep you updated. I know im in UK and your in USA, not sure wat time its there, but im sure when im going to bed your getting up!!!!! speak to you lata. many thanks again for your concern. xxxxx |

| it is not true if you had a cold or flu that the pups can get it...human colds and flues cant cross species...the puppy may have gotten this if she is in a cool or drafty area...you need to make sure the pups do not get chilled, at 2 weeks they still cannot regulate their own body temp, please make sure you have a heat pad under your whelping box 'on low'.... I hope she continues to recover all the best

| Tootsie has passed away Sadly, liittle Tootsie died at 15.55 this afternoon. She went quite so i went over to her and picked her up, she took i breath and died, Im so upset. Prior to that i had rang the vet 5 mins before and said there was no improvement after she was given the injections to help her breath, and he said to bring her back at 5pm. Ive informed him that she has died and he wants me to bring the pup in for a postmortem, to find the cause of death. God i do hope and pray the other 3 will be ok. Would like to thank you all for your good wishes and support at this sad time. |
