Donating YT 30K Club Member | Cali had the allergy testing. she had both types food and environmental and they showed no allergies. It ran 350.00 for both. SO we have no ideas why she scratches all the time. SHe just scratched her face so bad she has a raw spot on her nose. I have her on supplements but so far no change. The vet gave me steroids but I decided not to use them. I hope you can determine what is causing it.

Phantom Queen Morrigan Donating Member | the allergy test is good because it lets you know what she's allergic too and this is good if you want to use the allergy shot they can make up for you. However, sometimes it just tells you sees allergic to a bunch of stuff you have no control over like grass and pollen, and if you don't want to get the allergy shot then its really of no use. The test can be expensive so if your gonna use the injections then i say go for it, if your not because you don't want to inject her with more things then i'd skip it. There is a anti-histamine you can get from you vet called Hydroxyzine that usually has pretty good results. its non-steroidal.

if you get the test and the allergy shots made (pricey i bet) then she is suppose to get them on a set schedule. You can give them at home if your up to it. Its a simple sub-q injection. I think at first they get it every so many days, then every week, then every two weeks, then every month, etc...

I would also use an oatmeal shampoo on a weekly basis, and use Salmon oil on the food or in capsule form to get more omega fatty acids into her (must use Vit E when using fish oil, don't forget). And since i feed raw, to rule out food allergies, i'd use a rarer protein like venison, rabbit, or buffalo. I don't know about homecooking but don't you have to add lots of ingredients to make it balanced, as well as supplements? i think there would just be so many factors that could be adding to it, just like with kibble. so many ingredients, who knows what she could be allergic to. but then again i could be wrong because i don't know what exactly your feeding her.

this is the test most commonly used http://www.heska.com/allercept/pr_info.asp she might be one of those dogs that allergic to dust and there's no way you can do anything about that unless you seal her in a bubble. Allergy meds might be your only hope for stopping her itchies.

Therapy Dog Donating Member | Ahhh pretty Layla... we feel so sorry for you baby cause I have grown-up allergies and they are not fun that's for sure so I can only imagine how a little baby like you feels. I hope that you start to feel better soon once your mommy figures out with the vet on what to give you to stop the itchies.
