Hurt leg, how much baby aspirin? - YorkieTalk.com Forums

Sophie is favoring one of her back legs and she has just been sleeping or standing there shaking if I take her out to pee. She looks like she doesn't feel well but her breathing is fine and I offered her food and she ate it all!

I carefully felt of her leg and moved it around. She lets me move the joint every way, no problems. Then I pressed a little on her leg, starting at the foot and moving up. She yelled and pulled away when I pressed near the top (close to her hip). Then when I moved it around again she was fine. So I'm pretty sure it's just bruised or sprained, not broken. She couldn't have fallen off anything, because she can't get on the couch, and plus I watch her constantly. I'm guessing she was probably playing and bumped into something.

I just went out and bought her some baby aspirin, she's 3.5 lbs, how much can she take of an 81mg pill?

I dont know about the baby aspirin, I have never giving any to my babies. I would take her in and have it checked, just to be on the safe side.

Yeah, I plan to have it checked, but since she's breathing fine and eating fine, I wanted to avoid the $200 emergency vet exam fee if at all possible and take her to my regular vet tomorrow.

I just wanted to help her pain a little so she could get a good nights sleep!

lots of people here give their pets human pain meds and maybe one of them will come on and help you out. I for one will never give my dog asprin because it thins the blood and god forbid something else happens the asprin prevents the vet from doing something.

Well, if it's not a good idea I won't give her anything...she's not panting or yelling or anything...I think she's alright, just bumped it or something. It's not swollen at all and I just tried again...she can freely move it. Soph tends to exaggerate her pain...she screams when I accidently pull her hair a little brushing her or when I get a little drop of water in her eye giving her a bath...lol. So I'm not TOO worried right now...

ahh, seems you have a drama queen on your hands. LOL i'm sure she's ok if she's not limping or holding it up and you can manipulate it.

Well she IS limping a little and holding it up...but she also IS a drama queen...lol. But like I said, she's fine in all other respects, so I don't think she in need of EMERGENCY care, but I'll definitely take her to the regular vet tomorrow. And I'm watching her carefully...she's in her crate sleeping with her favorite stuffed animals now, away from the other dogs. If anything changes throughout the night I'll take her in to the EV.

my brownie is 18 lbs and gets a half of one when his arthitis acts up
i really would call a vet & ask or not give it to her at all

Ok, I think I'll just hold off...she's asleep so I'll just let her rest and check her frequently throughout the night. I have to go to work in the morning but I can come back get her around 9AM and take her by the vet.

good luck at the vet. hopefully its nothing. every time i see any type of back leg issues on here i immediately think luxating patellas. they are quite common in small dogs. I'd ask the vet about it.

Well, she seems to be fine now...no limping, no holding it up, she's walking normal. So I'm just going to watch her.

My doggie is having the same problem but with his front leg.
It's coming & going and he's running around like he's fine now.

I really don't have the $$ to take him to the vet until later this week so I'm not sure what to do !!! Seems like leg problems are pretty common in Yorkie's

Yeah...well I try to watch her as much as possible...and I take every possible precaution I can. I have doggie steps that I move from the bedroom at night to the living room during the day. I can't keep them off the couches because the older two can jump up there anyways...

Sophie can't even do that...which is why I think she just bumped it or something. I look out for her the most because she's the smallest with very short legs...and the youngest. Buuuttt I still have to watch Maddie and Chloe carefully too...even though I can only do so much...

And I just can't bring myself to not give them freedom of the house when I'm home...I can't bear to hear their little whines if I put them in the exercise pen or gate them in the kitchen. It's different when I leave, because I know it's for their own protection...so they won't get into anything or get hurt...but when I'm here I just can't pen them up!! I wouldn't change it a bit...I LOVE LOVE LOVE my yorkies...

But I worry so much about them!!

Sometimes I just stop and think about how small they really are...and I think about all the things that could happen to a dog...merely because of its size. I know why people get bigs dogs over small dogs...they are A LOT more work!! But I knew that before I ever got them...and I wouldn't trade any of them for any price!!

Yea I'm watching him carefully and trying to limit his activity and jumping around. I love my Yorkie more than anything in the world. I've never in my life loved or cared for a pet like this. There isn't anything I wouldn't do for him. It's just hard deciding between what is a vet nessesary emergency, and what will probably heal on its own you know?
