Coby has only lifted his leg twice so far (he's going on 6 months). I know that there are exceptions to every rule, but will neutering (on the 23rd of this month) help avoid the "marking" behavior in the first place? Reggie, my older one, lifts his leg and marks a bit outdoors but never in the house.

Roxy scratches the ground all the time. In the house, if she is trying to get a point across - like, MOM! it's time for me to bark at the tree - OPEN THE DOOR!! Or if she just wants attention, she barks and kicks her hind legs on the ground. She reall does it after she poops outside - grass and dirt fly everywhere .

Both of my Yorkies did/do that. I had heard that it was also a kind of "marking" behavior or like in some cases, a dominance behavior.

Oops. I voted, and I have two girls. But I voted NO. Except, Emma will pick up one of her back feet a little bit to avoid stepping in her pee while she's going-it's kind of cute!

Sometimes wasn't an option, but Ferdinand sometimes lifts his leg. He stopped after his neuter, but he does (20-30% of the time) lift his leg.

But the baby, 5 month old Coby, the Yorkie has tried it twice this weekend!!! The first time he did, he fell against the tree. The second time he fell away from the tree!! My boy is growing up (but not very gracefully)! He's beeing neutered the 23rd, so that will catch him before that becomes a real marking urge (hopefully!).

Oh that is too cute!!! The first time Georgie lifted his leg to pee it was in our kitchen on a bag I thought he was going to fall over and something was wrong until I realized he had an accident. I didn't get mad never do love him too much, but it was funny to see him almost fall trying to get his leg up. I think he was 5 months when he started lifting his leg and has lifted his leg on every inch of the yard

Yes it was he has a thing for plastic bags he is 2 now and I still have to watch him. But, he runs the house he just let's us live in it LOL! He has gotten a lot better, never has accidents except on an occasional plastic bag

Too Funny!! When I bring groceries or purchases home in plastic, I often put them on the floor. I'd have to stop that practice if I lived with Georgie!
