| At what age did your Yorkie first go to the groomer? I am having a hard time deciding whether to take Gracie to the groomer. She really needs cleaning up a bit, but I hate to get rid of the last evidence of puppyhood, that black cottony hair! Her hair is just now long enough to fit into a top knot so I don't want that part trimmed, black or not. At what age did your Yorkie have his/her first professional grooming experience (at a salon or with a professional groomer)? If other, just post a reply with the info!

| I think Trixie was 7 or 8 mo. when I first took her to the groomer. It just took me a long time to gather the courage to cut off her puppy hair. Finally her hair just got bad enough that I had to. Her first haircut turned out really really cute. She still had a top knot and her hair was still long. Just cut it around her body so it looked more neat and so it didn't stick in her eyes. I took her to a doggie training/salon for the first grooming and had a wonderful experience there. Too bad the groomer moved out of town shortly after.

| My pupp is 13 weeks (14 weeks on Friday) and she hasn't went in yet. I'm looking forward to being able to put in a top know. I want to keep her with a puppy cut while she is young though, a bit longer on the face. Her hair is getting pretty long under the pads of her feet though.... so I don't know if I should just bring her in for a little trimming or what? I know my friends that have a dog from the same breeder were bringing him in every time he got his shots (3 weeks?) but I bathe Miss Kimber every 1-1.5 weeks so its' not like she's scruffy? I don't know...

Donating YT 3000 Club Member | I took Bengi to his first grooming last week; he's 7 months old. I waited because I was a little scared. Everything went great. I found a wonderful groomer and she did a fine job. She trim the hair a little bit on the hear, so his eyes are all cleared up. I'm just so glad with the results! |

| Anyway, back to the subject at hand. Darla is only 3 months, but I took her in for her first bath (at the groomer! she has been bathed!!!). I wanted her to get used to the experience before someone starts at her with a pair of shears or scissors. She wasn't too happy about the blow dryer. I was, however, glad to see the groomer didn't put her in a crate with one of those blowing machines. She actually used a hand-held hose dryer. I stayed at the groomer's the entire time, not because I didn't trust her, just to chat and make sure Darla knew I was still there. I plan to take her a couple of times a month just to get her comfortable. Not sure how long it will be before she needs her first "trim." Last edited by fasteddie; 12-06-2006 at 07:30 PM. |

| I first took Bella at 5 mos. Just for the experience and to get her nails trimmed. She also trimmed the hair around her eyes, the tops of her ears, and her bottom. Bella loves the blow drier and sits on my lap every morning when I blow dry my hair to get her fair share...so that wasn't a problem. She didn't need a body clip and looked adorable when I picked her up

| they usually keep them for 4 hours when they do 3 or 4 at a time, they bathe them all then dry them all etc. its kinda hard on the dogs cuz they are there for so long. they dont want u there because the dogs act differently when the owners are there, cuz they want the owner to rescue them. I use to take my poodles to groomers and found it better to do it mself, they look funny sometimes but they are with me and I know they are fine.

| I think Hootie and Hobbs both got their first haircut around 4 or 5 months of age. You should probably wait until your little one has all of its shots before taking it to the groomer. I think most groomers require that they have their bordatella shot before being groomed. |

| I voted 6-9 months....I couldn't really remember, but it was somewhere in that time frame. We couldn't get Mojo until about 3 months or so (can't remember that exactly right now either) BUT, we had a groomer then, that we could stay w/ the whole time. When she "retired" --due to cancer--we went to another and I didn't know it was a drop off one.....I took him in and sat down and she told me it would be about 2 (went in about 9:30) when I could pick him up.....we went ahead and did that, but that was the last time --ever! No problems w/ it, just don't like the thought of him being in a strange place and in a cage all day! We now go to a groomer (on and off) that allows me to stay w/ him....it only takes 30mins for everything or about 15 or so if just a trim up and bath. She does a good job. I normally do it myself, but like to go for those "special occassions" or holidays. The "inbetweens" are done at home.

| Pepper needed a groomer desperately as his baby coat was very matted and I couldn't do much about it, as soon as he had his last baby shot, he went in at 3.5 months. They cut a lot of hair but since then it's been so much better to take care of, I'm growing it now and he only went for a clean up afterwards...

| Tinkerbell will be 2 years old soon and she has never been. I'm sure she never will either, I find it easy to do everything myself. |
