| I am blessed with one of each. At 7 months Bernie has a thick black cottony coat, that has never been cut. It's really beautiful. The dam and sire had silky coats, and the breeder insists that he's going to turn lighter and silkier when his adult hair comes in. And Baxter has the silky thin hair that always looks wet! I think that both are beautiful, but I prefer the silky. Anybody got any ideas on that cottony coat changing when the adult hair comes in?

| The yorkie that I used to have had a beautiful thick & wavy coat. She was mostly black with some tan on face & legs. When she became an adult her color changed to mostly all tan & stayed thick which I liked. When we would cut her hair then the black would really be there again on her back. I prefer the cottony as it never got messy looking & have that stringy look where the upper legs are. So much easier to take care of, not all that combing. Sharon |

| My pup has a cottony coat. It tangles really badly and he is still short-haired! I would prefer a silky coat as I've heard it is much easier to maintain and doesn't break as easily.

| This is the main reason I was checking out this site. I have two yorkies which are AKC registered. My boy is a year old and has a beautiful silky coat with beautiful blues in it. My girl is 8 months old. I take my babies to the groomer every two to three weeks. A few months ago when I took my baby girl into the groomer the groomer made a remark that "she is a weird little thing". She said that her hair was all wrong for a yorkie and that she would never show her or breed her with her hair being that way. I paid alot of money for her and she has ten champions in her pedigree. Of course I was upset and haven't taken her back there. Her hair is thicker then Dashes and feels a little wirey. Not sure but am wondering what I should do? I respect her opinion but it sounds like alot of yorkies have this type of hair? New to yorkies.. Is the thicker hair wrong or bad? |

| Britney's coat is silky and Brooklyn's coat is cottony. Britney's silky coat is so much easier to take care of and she rarely gets matts. When she does occasionally get matts, they just brush right out. Brooklyn's hair knots so easily and is much easier to take care of when it's in a puppy cut.
