Friends teasing your dog

I agree. A little bit of "Play teasing" is ok. We do the fake throwing of balls, etc., but only once in a while. But to really tease a dog is not acceptable. I'd let them know it. Or you could do something like hiding their staplers, pens, paper, or whatever they use and tell them you did it, but you were just teasing.

Thanks for the "support" everyone. I think what bugs me the most is that the people who tease them are also the ones who make jokes about their size. It makes me think they're teasing to be cruel.

Playing with them is one thing, but you have to pay attention to their reaction. When they look frustrated, board or mad, the "game" has gone on too long.

I got tired of scolding people. I now just take the toy, grab the dog and put him in his kennel.

I don't think fake throwing a ball is teasing. Gus is too smart for that. My son plays like that all the time. He'll go to throw the ball and Gus will take a few steps, just enough time for Timmy to hide it somewhere on him. And Gus has a ball looking for it.

What I don't like is when someone gets Gus all crazy because he is so very protective. My cousin doesn't come around too much but when he does he act like he's going to hit me and Gus would go after him. My kids used to hug me when Gus was on my lap and say,,, my mommy. And he would growl at them. I put a stop to it. But he still has a problem with my son hugging me, he has never bit them and I think it's a game with the boys, but I still don't like it. We are working on that. And one thing I think is cute but I know it's so wrong is, Gus knows when I'm upset with my husband and will growl at him if he gets too close to me when I am upset. I know "not good". Tim gets a kick out of it. I told him that if it were a big dog he'd change is tune about teasing.

My friends don't tease Twinkie they are actually jealous because they want a Yorkie themselves but when my husband's friends come over they tend to tease her by making making dumb remarks for her size (i.e. hamster).
I am used to it and don't really get worked up. Noone said masculity is equivalent to the type of dog you have or the dog's size. Many would wish it was that simple.
