| Obedience Classes Just wondering how many people have taken their Yorkie to obedience classes of some sort. It'll be multiple-choice so that you can hopefully answer for more than 1 dog. Joey and I go and we both love it. We've been fortunate to find a positive trainer. It's alot of fun!

| I think we did a similar poll last year sometime and I was very surprised at how few people do structured training with their yorkies. I think there is this perception that because they are so small that they don't need it. I feel very strongly that it is imperative for the benefit of the dog and his/her safety and well being to make sure they have formalized training. Besides that it is so fun and builds a much stronger bond between human and dog which is such a great side benefit for all. I grew up obedience training shepherds and poodles and my dogs are all service dogs so their training is on going for their entire lives. They love to learn!! |

| Trixie and I went through obedience class. We had soo much fun. I think besides the obedience part, it's also a very positive way of bonding with your pup!!!

| I could only vote once. My girls been through first and second level obedience the old yank and correct way. aced it. She been to school with a behaviorist and we switched to clicker. I ran off with her to an aggression trainer. which we ditched. And we are ground training with a tellington Touch coach. Plus I non stop train her for leadership. I really want to do obedience trialling but need a new dog for that it is out of my expectations for my girl. She given me her best and proved herself. She gets to just hang out and be loved and kept safe. Joy |

| We took Starsky to a puppy training class at Petsmart. He was one of the smartest ones in the class. He learned alot and the best part is he learned to be around other dogs!! But you have to keep working with them or they will forget. I am guilty that I don't work with Starsky all the time. He'll do everything for a treat, but never with out one. He just stares at me!

| My boys haven't gone yet but I would like for them to go. What is the best age to start training and what method is recommended? The old school way or clicker training? I saw the trainer at Petsmart yanking on the neck of a puppy a few days ago and I didn't care for that. I guess it serves her right that the pup snuck around behind her and got into the treat pouch I've already done the basic sit, stay, come here and walk properly on the leash but we haven't gone past that yet. |

| Pixie starts the "Basic Obedience Class" in a couple weeks. It's not a clicker trainer, but they do stress positive reinforcement over forceful corrections. I think once we're done with the Basic Class, I'll do the Canine Good Citizenship in the spring and maybe take an agility class after that (Has anybody here done an agility class? Did you like it?) |

| Training your Yorkie can save their life. Simple commands like "Come" and "Stay" are a must. Yorkies are smart and learn quickly so it really is not that much work. It is fun to go into the advanced work and some take to it like a fish to water.

| Stomper has been through puppy training, puppy grad training and adult training. You would think he would ALWAYS listen. Yah right!

Mom to Marty & Maddie Donating Member | I trained Marty at home and had LOTS of fun doing it! He is very well behaved and we made sure that he was socialized with other dogs, so I don't feel he missed out on anything. In fact, I like it better that I was able to do it. I think it made him feel closer to me (and of course the other way around, too). I've been planning on posting a video with all of his tricks soon so be looking for it in the My Yorkie section and see for yourself that training at home works, too. |
