I would have to go with yorkiepoo as my favorite cross breed. I have two and they are hands down the two smartest dogs in the house with very fun personalities. I always say it is the poodle in them that makes them so smart as poodles are a smart breed and because my yorkies don't come close to be as intelligent.

That kind of cross I can understand. However, Maltese + Yorkie = small, hypoallergenic dog. Toy Poodle + Yorkie = small, hypoallergenic dog. Shih Tzu + Yorkie... are shih tzu's hypoallergenic? I'm not sure. But you get the idea.

Not that the cross aren't cute and sweet, they are.

I've said before that I like cockapoos because they are very beautiful, and they do appear to have a consistent "look". The poodle part improves the intelligence a lot. And since poodles have been relentlessly inbred, I can understand why people might want poodle characteristics in a non-poodle dog.

I wouldn't really go to a 'breeder' for a mixed dog - but I would absolutely love to have a Morkie. I'm certain that I could find one a shelter, so it would be a rescue. I think mixes are adorable - i've always had a big soft spot for mix-breed dogs.

and I absolutely LOVE cockapoos. The night we got my first yorkie (from a pet store had no idea about puppy mills), we were planning on getting a cockapoo from a different place, but they sold her while we were on the way to buy her. as I said, I wouldn't get a mix from a breeder now that I know better, but I would definitely love a mixed dog.

Here you go Megan~this little guy is 1 yr old and in a kill shelter in TN. He looks just like my Doodlebug who is a Morkie. They use the heart stick kill method at this shelter and he was scheduled to die today. They used the gas chamber but they changed in April 2010 to heart stick. I just could cry~there is no reason to purposely breed unless you are bettering the PUREbred lines of a breed. NONE!

His face has haunted me since yesterday when I saw his picture. He also was in the YHR email that I got today. He is the reason that irresponsible breeders make me sick! There is no reason that he is sitting in a kill shelter today at 1 yr old other than the FACT that someone allowed their pets to breed and did not take responsibility for their actions. I cannot get him out of my head and I know I will never be able to find out if he was rescued or adopted. The poor little guy.

Contrary to popular belief, breeding a dog with a poodle does not make them hypoallergenic. (For starters, there is no such thing as a 'hypoallergenic' dog.) Labradoodles have been around for a long time and are a much more established experiement in other places, like Australia. It takes many generations of selective breeding to achieve dogs that are less likely to trigger allergies. It's not something that is accomplished with a first generation breeding.

Sasha is a yorkie/maltese that I purchased from a wonderful breeder. Most people guess that she isn't mixed at all since she looks 100% yorkie!

Exactly! And since they also share many of the same genetic conditions like liver disease, luxating patellas, etc., your risk of getting a designer dog with one of these health issues is pretty high. Remember, reputable breeders don't mix breeds so if you buy a designer mix, it is safe to assume the breeder is not reputable ad most likely hasn't done any health screening.
