What do you feed your Yorkie FOOD POLL April 2009 So, so, so, so many of us have changed diet's for our pup's and so many new members have so many questions about what to feed their Yorkie, so I thought we could re-do this poll perhaps to get an updated version of the last. The last poll was great, so hopefully no one minds answering the most asked question AGAIN:)?? What do you feed your Yorkie!!?? Currently Snickers is on a rotation diet of Nature's Variety Raw Medallions and EVO Chicken kibble. WE LOVE IT!!!! |
Buddy has thrived on NB Organic. I add home cooking, boiled chicken and veggies to his kibble twice a day. I do not rotate food. |
Food Poll mine get "chicken soup for the soul" Adult kibbles I home cook/vegies, lamb,or chicken hearts, steak, or brown rice. Cheryl:aimeeyork |
I checked other...My girls all get the LIfe's Abundance Kibble and a little bit of the LA canned in the mornings. |
Sasha is currently eating NB and is doing well with it. She's a very picky eater though and gets bored about halfway through the bag. Once I'm through using the NB flavors, I'm thinking about trying Wellness and maybe Wellness CORE also and not sure what else yet. I've been doing research on all the different higher rated brands out there, trying to find one that has a few different flavors to chose from. |
My girls are on The Honest Kitchen freeze-dried drydrated raw. We use Embark and Preference; Preference gets cooked Salmon and Talapia added to it. |
wellnes in the morning with cottage cheese and home cooked food for dinner. i do rotate the wellness, with chicken soup, or merricks food |
My 2 get Solid Gold Just Wee Bits and I add veggies to their kibble at night. |
I'm glad you did this poll, I am interested in the results since I am looking for a new food. I was feeding Nutro and just found out it is bad. I am thinking of going with NB Duck and Potato and also giving them a little bit of boiled chicken and green beans. I was wondering, does anyone mix two types of dry food? |
mine get LA dry kibble and they love it!!!!!! it is the best!!! |
Because my Rambo has some food allergies he got a dryfood from the vet which is called "IBDerma Lupovet" and he is well. Lupovet exists as wetfood too but Rambo only likes the dryfood. As treats he got some pieces of carrots, apple, mild paprika (everything raw) and cooked potatoes. Zorro eats the same and likes it. Unfortunately I canīt give Rambo bread, noodles, rice and so one (he is begging for these things) because he get bloatings and gas from it and I do not want to see my baby in pain. From chicken he gets diarrhea, it is too fat for him. I must be very careful what I give him but he is a very good eater :). |
Hailey is currently eating Wellness Small Breed dry kibbles mixed with their canned formula.I do rotate her food periodically with Canidae/ Merrick/Chicken soup. |
Lil' Miss Izzie loves her Natural Balance Organic kibble and also get treats of Homemade Chicken Jerky, Raw Baby Carrots, and of course her Yorkie Yummie Treats :animal36:animal36 I will also on occasion add some ground up Natural Balance Turkey Roll to her kibble or some Parmasean Cheese, or Meat Juice from a Chuck Roast (without any seasoning) :animal36:animal36:animal36 |
Wellness I feed my Yorkie "Wellness" and he is happy with it. First, I tried to use "Chicken Soup for Puppy Lovers", :thumbdown but my puppy did not like it at all. |
Meg eats The Honest Kitchen 'Embark' mixed with Newman's Own (Turkey and Chicken, or Chicken formulas). I mix them because when she eats just THK, she poops a LOT and it's very soft, and when she eats just the Newman's Own she gets constipated and has hard, compact little poopies. Sometimes she gets people food, but then she gets very picky! |
After years of trying every pet food on the market, including the vets suggestions...........my Yorkies wouldn't eat any of it. So I was boiling chicken breasts and giving it to them. My vet said that was fine, but they wouldn't get alot of nutrients with just chicken. We finally found a dog food they will eat.........Beneful Healthy Diet. My vet says it's not the best in the world, and not the worst......it has rice and veggies, and the important thing is they eat it. LOLOL |
I make my own RAW for Lola. She gets carrots or sweet potato chips for treats. I also use EVO when travelling. She LOVES it and doesn't itch at all anymore! |
I get a good deal on Eubakanuba in PetLand for like the BIG bag and they love it and I buy pack's and pack's of cesare so i mix soft and hard but soft and hard once a day but minnie started on wellness but i don't have my own car to go hunting for it so euba it is lol... |
Snickers and Baxter are eating a rotation of Timberwolf Organics and Innova Small Bites. I usually change their food every 3-4 months. |

They carry almost every brand. |
I checked "OTHER". I am currently feeding Addiction Dry Food Salmon Bleu formula and Addiction is the brand I intend to stick with as her main course even though it's still not one my girl will eat all on her own like she used to when it was given as a "treat". She waits until she's hungry and her Daddy's around to handfeed this to her so she essentially gets this for breakfast (some mornings she skips breakfast) and dinner and as a late night snack. I also leave some out for her to free feed throughout the day but she doesn't like it enough to eat it on her own. I am going to try their other venison formula and maybe rotate them if available to be purchased here--I'll be saving the Kangaroo formula for the future when it becomes a necessity (allergies) rather than venture onto such novel protein sources for the time being. Throughout the daytime, she gets generous "treat" portions of Halo Spot's Stew Wild Salmon Recipe dry kibbles which she's crazy about but I don't know if it's because it's "new" and she's fooled into thinking they're "treats" but she gets really into her treat training sessions with this also. I'm probably going to look for something else to replace this one again for the "treat" source as I didn't notice the "chicken" in the ingredients when I bought it (only noticed chicken fat and liver usage) until I looked at their website. I'm also not too sure about the "vegetable broth" being that I want to know what was used in making that "broth"... I swear I smell garlic and heavy sodium content coming out of the kibble... I was VERY close to trying some for myself to figure that out. :p The kibble sizes are near identical to Natural Balance's small bites in size and shape with maybe less density. She's also getting very little of Wild Bites' Buffalo and Blueberry (new flavour) soft chewy organic treats. I try to give less of this now since I'm concerned about the rich fatty intake. And I also very rarely give tiny tiny portion of Pure Bites Freeze Dried Beef Liver Treat. This is her super duper special treat but I break it into tiny tiny piece(s) for her. I worry about the rich fatty intake of too much of this too. When I first bought it, I had been much too generous on both this treat and the Wild Bites, that's also why I went back to giving her "real" kibbles as "treats" to minimize on the intake of rich foods. |
Ellie's food is homemade but if I had to choose a kibble for a healthy dog it would be Innova, Wellness, Natural Balance or Science Diet Nature's Best. |
I feed Authority Baked Chicken. It has fruits & veggies and is a softer dry food. When I got Harley as a foster he wouldn't eat anything but I had a sample of Authority and he ate it. I have just stuck with it. For some of my fosters, depending on the condition of their teeth, I will feed Science Diet Senior canned. |
We feed Eukanuba & have for a few years with very good results Betty & Micah my love:aimeeyork |

By the way, how do you set up a poll  |
Layla gets home cooking because of a health issue- but if i had to pick a kibble it would be Natural Balance. |
I alternate between Chicken Soup and Canidae. Right now mine are on a combination of Chicken Soup Adult and Chicken Soup Puppy. |
I feed mine Wellness in combination with homemade. |
My girls get Primal Raw in the morning and Homecook food (formulated by a nutrionist) which is Salmon and sweet potatos at night. |
My little Rico also gets Solid Gold Wee Bits. He absolutely loves it. Right now we are trying to find treats that don't upset his tummy. We are thinking about the NB Bison treats. Since that is the main product in his food. Also going to try and "dehydrate" a sweet potato and see how he likes it. |
