| You know I'm truely an open minded person and feel that people really should stick to their beliefs. I also really try and understand where they are coming from so I understand even if I don't agree. My problem with many of the people who are against the Harry Potter books is that they just pick and choose. For example a friend of mine was raised on Disney movies and really what disney movie doesn't have magic in it? Her favorite was Alice in Wonderland. Ummm, hello packed with magic and hey wasn't the author of the book on drugs while writting it. Anyway well her mother is against Harry Potter and told her that she didn't want her to see it. Now on the other end I knew a lady who wouldn't let her son watch any movie that had magic in it, nor would she let him go trick or treating. I'm sure there was also more that she wouldn't let him do just don't remember it all right now. Now here's my point I just don't think you should get to pick and choose what you are going to be against like that. "Well Disney magic is ok but not Harry Potter magic." Magic is magic whether its used for good in a cartoon or bad in a movie with real people (some of the characters in HP are bad or dark). If you are against magic then be against all magic. I really respect those who go all the way like the lady with her son. She has her beliefs and sticks to them no matter what. I will say this it doesn't bother me for someone to be against a book but I don't like the idea of book burnings, like what went on with Harry Potter or banning books, no matter what they are. I just feel that if you don't want to read it don't but don't try and take the right away from me to if I want.

| Makes perfect sense to me. And one of the greatest Christian writers - C. S. Lewis - wrote the Narnia books for children, and they were full of magic and witches etc., but they taught values - Christian values in a way that children understand and enjoy. Children learn from their parents how to understand any literature. I think the most wonderful thing that the HP books have done for children all over the world is it makes them want to read. Once they enjoy reading, they'll read everything and that's a wonderful thing for everybody. |
