Banning Thread Dictator Donating Member | Motion blur panning technique I've been playing around with "panning" with the camera, where you select a slow shutter speed (1/60 or 1/125) and follow your running dog with the camera, trying to match his speed with how fast you move the camera. I've had mixed results. Yesterday, I tried 1/125 of a second on a sunny day and got a good shot of Jillie, but it didn't look like motion to me. It was just a blurry background. Today, I slowed it down to 1/60 and got better motion but my focus wasn't as good. I also had issues with shadows. What do you think? Have you ever tried it? It's fun and not terribly difficult if you've got a camera where you can change the shutter speed. The first three here are today on 1/60th of a second. The last one is yesterday at 1/125.

2+2=4 X the Love ♥ Donating Member | Nope never tried it, sounds complicated plus I don't have one of those fancy expensive cameras. I'll try setting my Kadak easy share to the motion setting and see if that gets similar results !!

Banning Thread Dictator Donating Member | OK, fine, no interest in this topic! But I've been playing around with it a lot lately. Here are two more of my favorites. The shot of Jillie was a mistake -- she was supposed to be in focus -- but for some reason a lot of my FB friends love it. It looks like she was shot out of a cannon! Camera was set on 1/60th of a second. The shot of Eddie was today and probably my best technically after weeks of practice. His face is in good focus, the background is blurry. It was taken on 1/80th of a second with the camera moving to follow his motion.

| I need to try this, as I slowed down my shutter speed unknowingly, lol, so this will give me something to do till I figure out how to speed it up again. Your pics are fantastic!

They don't have to run all that fast. You just have to try to move the camera at the same speed they are. Be sure to post them here if they come out!

YT Graphic Artist Donating Member | Mike, the pictures look great! I love the one of Jillie with the ball in her mouth. Eddie looks great too. I haven't tried this - not sure I have the patience for it! Keep it up though, you're doing great!

YT 2000 Club Member | Awesome photo! I wish I had the time and patience to mess with my settings on my camera. I have hope of upgrading my Cannon.....some day. I have almost wore out my camera....the door to my memory card compartment is loose and I have to tape it shut! LOL
