| ![]() Hey guys! Ok so I'm FINALLY getting a camera but first off I can't decide between the Canon Rebel XS or the Canon Rebel XTi? I'm leaning towards the XS since so far I've loved all the pictures I've seen taken with it. Any suggestions?? Also when going to buy it, will it come with a 50 mm lens (I'm trying to get the blurred effect in the background) or do I need to plan on purchasing that separately? Anything else I should know or make sure to get? I've NEVER used this kind of camera before and it's very daunting haha....hopefully they're not TOO hard to learn! Did you guys learn pretty quickly?? Thanks for the help! ![]()

| ![]() Also when going to buy it, will it come with a 50 mm lens (I'm trying to get the blurred effect in the background) or do I need to plan on purchasing that separately? Typically, the stock lens is the 18-55, if you would like the 50mm, plan on purchasing it separately.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | ![]() Is this the 50mm you're looking at: ![]() This is a great lens, so affordable. If you want to really control the aperture...a prime lens like the 50mm (vs a zoom) is a great way to control the background (ie, depth of field). Are you shooting during the day mostly (for food shots, for example)? If yes, the 50mm is nice for letting in a good amount of light (bc of opening up the aperture). If you do need a flash, I'd recommend an external flash that you can bounce, rather than using the on-board flash. I think DSLRs are fun...but yep, can be daunting. You can always build more and more on tech knowledge. I feel like I still only use about 20% of my camera's capabilities. ![]()

| ![]() Hello! I have the Canon Rebel XSi...not sure what the differences are between all the Rebels. This is my second one...first one was stolen ![]() ![]() I'm still learning. I need to look into taking a class because I know this camera can do so much more than I know how to do. Good luck and have fun!

| ![]() I have an older Canon Digital Rebel Xt, and plan to upgrade soon too. Watching your thread to see what everyone else recommends.

| ![]() I dont know much about Canon as I shoot Nikon. But 50mm prime is great, however depending on what you are shooting, it can be not as practical. It will give you the background effect (called boca, if you want to sound proffesional ![]()
