| Are there any decent cameras for around $600?? My birthday is the last of this month and I want my bf to get me a new camera as my gift. I really don't want him to spend anymore then $600, but could go a tiny bit over. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I am clueless on what to buy. I have never really thought much about cameras before, but since getting Bailey I am constantly taking pics, and I want something of better quality. Please give me some suggestions!

| I am new to the world of photography too. I wanted a nice starter camera for Christmas and I got a Nikon D-3000. I am still learning, but love the thing!! I think it runs around $600.

| I bought a Kodak Easyshare P850 a couple of years ago and I love it. I'm sure they would have a different model by now though. I think I paid $499.00 for mine and I have been totally happy so far...but I will admit...I've been thinking about a DSLR camera for my next one. |

| I've finally decided to get the Nikon D90, but my second choice was the Nikon D5000. Amazon has them right now, with the kit lens, for $700. I know that's a little more than you're wanting to spend but it's a great camera.

DSLR = Digital Single Lens Reflex. Basically, when you look through the DSLR viewfinder or LCD display, you are looking through the lens of the camera. This helps with framing the picture, focusing, etc.

The point and shoot are fully automatic. They have a few different setting such as portrait and landscape, but you cannot set the shutter speed or aperture opening and ISO. I have posted several good photography tutorial sitres in this thread. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/pho...questions.html the tutorials will help you get to know your camera.
