| Photography: Which camera is better? So I have been looking at a few cameras... I was thinking the Nikon D90 was the one. Then I found the Nikon D300s and the Canon Model: EOS 5D Mark II which has HD video 1080p and a 21.1 megapixel camera. I am looking for a professional camera that i can get the most out of. I love hiking and I plan on traveling a lot this year and want an awesome camera to take with me. Any pros or cons you have heard or experianced? Is there another I should look at? I plan on going to a photography store but the ones nearby closed down. I'm not in a rush I just want a camera I will really be happy with.

| Have you seen the new Photography Talk forum here on YT? It's just below the off topic forum. There are lots of great discussions about cameras there. (I know, I've been researching which one to buy for months ). Check out the sticy at the top of the forum - it's very long but has some great info throughout.

| I wanted a Nikon and then last night I was looking at them at BestBuy.com and they had the Canon with the 21.1 megapixel and 1080p HD video... Which is like having a two in one. I always heard that Canon had the better video... Which I wasn't too concerned about before, until I saw this camera.

I'm now looking to upgrade to the D700 primarily, because it's a full frame (35mm film equivalent) FX format camera. I think the D90 may have the advantage of packing more pixels into the smaller image DX format. I'm no expert, so someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Next big decision is the choice of lens, likely lenses. What did you have in mind?

| You caught me without my notes. I think the kit lens would be a good one for me (18-105mm). And I want a zoom, probably 70-300mm, and a prime lens. I haven't decided on the prime lens yet whether the 35mm or the 50mm would be best for me. Any suggestions on sizes or brands? I'm open to advice. Actually, from reading your posts in the photo forum, I pretty much want everything you've bought.

| I think the Nikon 35mm f/1.8G AF-S DX Lens is a good prime lens choice. It's equivalent to a 50mm lens on a full frame camera. So, for the D90 the 35mm lens = 50mm. You should be able to get it for $200, e.g., at B&H Photo. The 18-105mm is nice. It would have been my choice, but my DW wanted the 18-200mm. She wanted the latter lens so she wouldn't have to carry too many lenses. I've gotten used to its weight & bulk after trying macro lenses.

I think the 18-200 plus one prime like the 35mm is good for starters.
