To be honest I am not sure why he made the comment on digital or what that offers me but we will see. They were selling the 400 for only $97.00 which is a good price...

Let me know what you think about the Bower flash after you get it. I'm thinking about getting this one, because it has the macro ring light.

I'm interested in the ring light for macro photos. Otherwise, it's generally not needed. I would hope that the flash is equivalent to the one that you are getting.

Also, not sure it's an on camera flash since its description says "slave". Of course if you are looking for a slave flash then no issue.

I've heard/read so many say how happy they are with this flash that I'm not even going to look around at others. And the pictures I've seen where this flash is used have looked great, too.

Slave Flash Units: If your camera doesn't have a hot shoe or other flash connector, and many pocket cameras don't, you can use a slave flash unit. Referring to the SB-400, your friend might be right.

I put the SB-400 on my Nikon D90 & was thrilled with it. Best thing was its light weight. I felt that I could leave in on the camera full time, use it instead of the built in flash, & have the advantage of flash bounce off my low 8' ceilings.

I was experimenting with the camera with no flash under poor light conditions, & noticed how well the pictures looked without any flash. Of course I optimized the camera settings for low light. I started wondering why I needed a flash of any kind (of course a flash is needed at times), & a second one at that.

So, I decided to compare the built in flash with the SB-400. I didn't see any difference. Now in fairness, the test may have been flawed, but if the SB-400 was better, it wasn't much better for my home pictures. So, I returned the SB-400, & will think about whether I really want the cute little SB-400 or the more powerful next step up bulkier SB-600.

In the meantime, I ordered the Nikon Wireless Remote Close-Up Speedlight System (batteries not included). I'm going to specialize in macro photography, at least for a while. The batteries were delivered today, & the system is scheduled for delivery tomorrow.

This is great info! It sounds like I might want to just get the camera at first and see how happy I am with the shots before I invest in the flash. I'm sorry to hear it didn't work out that well for you, but I am glad you were able to return it.

I love the way browniesmom's pics look when she uses the bounce so I think its the flash for me!
