As for software, the top of line would be Adobe's Photoshop ($665) - but it's pricey and it's complicated, and the only reason I have it is thru work...I find it rather hard to work with a lot of the time, to be honest (altho you can do a TON w/ it). Another option is Paint Shop Pro, not sure how much $ that is. Adobe Lightroom ($275) is another Adobe product and is a step down from Photoshop but still pricey. I have heard Google's free "Picasa" is really pretty darn good...so I'd be inclined to give that a try. I think I've heard it's user friendly too, which is such a plus when dealing w/ photo editing (also called "post" or "post processing"). Now, slap on that 50mm when you get it, switch to "A" mode, open the aperture to 1.8, and focus on some flowers or some things that are in front of each other and have FUN! :D |

One other thing Deb...for us Newbie's we are asking people to say what settings they are using with they post pictures...:) |
Hey BunBun...between Amazing Yorkies (Deb) post and Wyllie's mom (Ann) post we have our answers...Yea...:D Now to find the money... |
Picnik is another free editing program that you can also "upgrade" for more options (24.95/yr for upgrade), but you could try the free version and see what it's like....I think I've heard pretty nice things about it: Picnik - Photo editing the easy way, online in your browser |
ACK! Totally forgot about Adobe Photoshop Elements which is only about $80 (the "only" referring to the full Photoshop) -- it's supposed to pretty AWESOME for that price) and has some great tools. Here is a chart comparing a few: Compare Photo-Editing Software - Photo-Editing Software Comparison |

Thanks for the info on the programs, I'll check them out... I really need user (dummy) friendly.. LOL I downloaded Picasa the day I posted, it seems easy to use, but leaves out some of the fun things to play with.. almost too easy. So far, everything I've taken has been on auto everything.. but I may get brave later this week. I've watched several tutorials online, but still a little anxious.. LOL Thanks for the info!! |
I'm really excited to get some pics of the Buffalo.. They were really feisty today.. didn't have camera with me :( |
Those using Adobe Elements 7.. is there a tool for the edges, like fade, soften or frame? I'd like that too, if possible. I used Microsoft Picture it for the last umpteen years and really liked it for ease and I liked to soften the edges to "frame" the photo on my website. Picture It doesn't work on my Vista.. :( |
I dont have elements, so I dont know about it, I just have Photoshop CS2 .Have you tried photoscape, it has edges and frames. |
