| Breny, your pics really look great! I was gonna quote you, but then I saw I'd have to quote everything you said. You sound just like me - I'm so impatient. I want it NOW, and I want to use it NOW. I don't want to wait for shipping & I don't want to spend time reading a manual. So what do you think? Do you like it? I'm pretty certain I want either the D5000 or the D90. Tell me what I should buy!

Thanks for the recommendations, guys. I will feel a lot better buying from QVC than that one company I posted the link to.

Okay, I'm just comparing the D5000 and D90 for you, here are what I think are the main points: **D90 has "cinematic quality" video (LOL! Do we really need that? I mean COOL, but seriously....) **same sensor (nice) **same 11-point auto focus **Might have same metering system, D90 might be slightly better (not sure on this one) **D5000 has more ISO choices (100-6400) vs 200-3200 **Both have live view, but the D5000 also has this "tilt view" live view screen (if you look at that QVC link, and click on the add'l pics, you'll see it) **both have Active D lighting Okay...truly, I think what you're really paying for w/ the D90 (vs. the D5000) is the super-quality movie dealio. So unless that's a big deal for ya, I think I'd save the $400+ (for lenses!) and go for the D5000. Just my 2 cents.

As for "what toy next" (lol)? Def. get the SB400 flash via Amazon (or wherever) soon - it's the add-on flash so you don't have to use the camera flash (yuck!) - you can "bounce" the flash w/ the SB400. It's about $100 (xmas present from someone perhaps?). As far as lenses...depends...do you want a zoom or a prime? A great prime everyone should have (imho) is the Nikon/Nikkor 50mm 1.8 - again via Amazon about $100, which is crazy for a lens - it is a "cult" lens, meaning everyone who has it LOVES it and can't believe how cheap it is. Blurred background CENTRAL, if that's your thing. You can get all kinds of bokeh (blur)! But if you want a zoom...boy...you could go all sorts of places bc the range is so wide...I'd def. look into that one BrowniesMom has and see what she likes/dislikes about that lens. Do you want a zoom for like portraits/doggies or for taking pics of sports or ?

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Bon - I just read on DP Review that the D5000 does *not* have an in-body focus motor...therefore, similar to the D40/60, you're limited in lens choices. That's a bummer. Let me explain more.... When I had my D40, I wanted to use the $100 Nikkor 50mm SO badly...but it won't auto focus on the D40 bc the D40 requires lenses that have their *own* focus motor to auto focus (you can, however, manually focus). So, for me to use a Prime lens that would auto focus on my D40, I had to go to a Sigma 30mm and the lens was about $460. This lens had its own focus motor though.... See what I mean about limitations? To some, that's no big deal though....

I don't know anything about prime lenses. I'm crazy about the blurred background look, though. Do I need one for this effect? What is the lens that comes with the camera for? I'm so confused.....

| Did you take that pic of the squirrel by manually focusing your lens? EXCELLENT shot, by the way.
