I know..lol...I got up this morning and my order wasn't processed yet so I canceled it and ran out to best buy lol. And you know 99.9% of the pics I will be taking are going to be of my pooches LOL. I'm going to have a ton of pics to be posting!!!!!

I shop from QVC all the time. They are great and will take anything back for ANY reason!!! They would ship the camera right now and then you pay for it over the next 3 months. DO it!!!

DSLR cam's take a lot of practice. My pictures started off looking a lot worse than my previous digital camera pictures. But once you figure out what everything does and know how to work the controls, it's like riding a bike. Mine was a Christmas present, and at the time they were giving out DSLR Cameras For Dummies with every purchase of one. It helped me A LOT. Easy to read and, honestly, rather enjoyable~ It teaches you how the camera works, breaks down each and every function, tells you how to best utilize said function, and even gives you tips for using photoshop.

"A" mode is fabulous - that's what I shoot in almost all the time - this is "Aperture Priority Mode" - and *you* can choose the aperture, the camera then chooses the approp. shutter speed for you. You want a wide aperture/f-stop (ie. 1.8-4 ish) to blur the background. Your lens may not open to 1.8, all lenses are different.

It's also diff. w/ zooms...w/ zooms like you're using, it's not as easy to just choose an aperture/f-stop. That's the reason people love "Prime" lenses like 50mm I've mentioned - there is no zoom, but you can have total control over the aperture, which is super fun.

Now, whatcha need next is the add-on flash SB400 - so you can "bounce" the flash rather than have the flash hit directly at your kiddos.

I have been shopping with them before they were even QVC and I highly recommend them. Right now anything you buy you have until Jan 31 to return but normally it is 30 days which I love.....You are always going to get a little more from them on computers etc. I got my bed (what's my number) my computers and my camera's from them. A lot of the major manufacturers go to them to introduce new products and in some cases you can only get it at QVC for a certain amount of time. When items are returned to QVC then they sold to people who put the items on ebay...so when I see something I like (cookbooks, clothes, purses etc) on QVC I always go over to ebay to see if it is there. I don't do this with computers, camera's and electronic items I have bought...

I say go for it...that is where I got my olympus e-450...just received it and have just started messing with it.

LOL, it's still a lot of greek to me too...and then it just sort of starts sinking in here and there, bit by bit. The lens you got is great - zooms are super fun. Just at some point, I'd highly recommend a Prime (non zoom) lens bc they are really fun too

I'll attach some pics using a Prime lens that I set to a wide aperture (ie, low f-stop number like 1.8 or so)...see how the "depth of field" is very shallow? In other words, see how what is in focus is a very small area?

Oh cool

! I love aperture priority mode. Pat yourself on the back, bc you're really only one step away from shooting manual (not that manual is a big deal, but just so ya know how far you are from "full auto"!). The only time that mode may not be great is in reallllly low light, bc the shutter speed is chosen for you...so let's say it's really dark and even though you're at 1.8, there isn't much light coming into the camera - well, the shutter speed might go to a full second....and you know how that'd be - a big fat blurry nothing

. That's when you probably are forced to use flash anyway though if the light is that low...

I have the Canon Rebel Xti with just a kit lens. I'm still learning. My problem is that I'll learn a little and then stop taking pictures....forget....relearn again....and stop taking pictures. LOL My pups can't be still, or they stay under my feet, so it is kind of hard to take pictures of them by themselves.
