Cream of " _____ " soups, have you made them?
 
I have recently started making my own "cream of" soups for recipes instead of the salty fat laden Campbell's variety ~ and I'm in LOVE!!

I always have the ingredients on hand, it takes me 5 minutes and they taste amazing :thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

Anyone else tried it?

Ingredients are:

Butter
Flour
Milk
Water
Salt
Pepper
______ (whatever the "of"is :winky: )

I have also used chicken stock in place of the milk and water!

My favorite is Cheesy Broccoli soup....but I use heavy whipping cream and half & half. Potato soup is also awesome!

I love both of those as well!

Lately, tho, I'm replicating (or improving upon :p) Campbell's soups to use in recipes that call for " a can of cream of mushroom soup" or whatever. I've shied away from them because of fat and sodium and general uckyness :eek: :D (wait ~ is that really how you spell shy _ ed??)

Oh, and I use Fat Free half and half.....still tastes great to me :thumbup: :idontknow :thumbup:

The only canned soups I use are cream of chicken & cream of mushroom in my recipes. My "real" soups are always from scratch

Well now my cream of chicken and cream of mushroom soups are from scratch too. I will never buy those red cans (or store brand :hide2:) again!!

I tried to make a cream of potato soup before, let’s just say that was the last time I tried making a soup! HA!! :p

I do love a "proper" cream of mushroom soup ( meaning too nice for a recipe addition) and I make a GREAT rendition if I do say so myself

I make an amazing potato leek soup that my son-in-law taught me... OMG. I love homemade soup... beef barley another one of my favs

I love making soups but what is a new revelation to me is that I can not use "the red can" in recipes calling for "cream of......."

Making my own cream of chicken and cream of mushroom and cream of celery etc is easier than I ever dreamed :thinking: :dreaming:

The only canned cream soup i use is cream of mushroom the rest are home made

But have you ever tried to replace that canned cream of mushroom with a HOMEMADE cream of mushroom. That's what I'm asking.

I do it, and the homemade version takes 5 minutes to make.

Oh yes! And with the warm/hot weather coming up I love making vichychoisse (cold leek & potato soup). Nothing cools me down better, and adding home grown chives.... yumm!:D

No I havent and Ive had homemade and love it IM just too lazy to make it to use in a recipe
