| ![]() We have corned beef, fried cabbage, steamed cabbage cooked with a dime for good luck, roasted potatoes, black eye peas and corn bread. This was my Husbands dads traditional meal for new years

| ![]() we have...... .... chinese food! ggeezzz... I am beginning to hate that stuff. You can't eat stuff you hate on New Years Day can you? I think I might need to find a good recipe for a good luck meal tomorrow!

YT 2000 Club Donating Member | ![]() I was going to ask what is cooking for NY day? Okay, traditionally we have a midnight supper of Tortiere (meat pie), salads, cabbage, and bread; with at least three different sweet desserts. Mom on NY day would always cook Pigs feet (yuck) that only she would eat, plus a crackling roast of pork, with veges, potatoes, and yup more sweet desserts. I on the other hand will serve seafood at midnight - a light repast. New Years day this year (by request) will be Rock cornish Hens done in a slow cooker, and Mandarin Orange Almond Salad, with fresh home baked French stick. I have a mixed berry pie to serve as dessert. We shall have a full breakfast, with Champagne, a breakfast casserole and lots of fresh fruit. The day starts early for me, and yes we too have a tradition of a clean home, no laundry, and all bills are paid before NY eve end. We also tried to follow a Dark haired man entering the home with a piece of coal. The best I can do now is have my boy Magic enter home first after midnight. Hey he is black and a male........DOG. LOL

| ![]() We made a dish called Hoppin John, it had bits of ham and black eyed peas, celery, rice and red pepper. It was really really good! This might need to be a new tradition for us!

| ![]() Never had it and never even heard of it.... but it's been a bit of a rough year for my family so I looked up a bunch of good luck traditions/foods, and settled on making Hoppin John. We were all loving it! YUM! IM going to make this more often! ![]()
