Donating YT 1000 Club Member | Cookie exchange-swap Since my oldest son just moved out and my youngest is planing on getting married and moving out as well, I found myself at this time of the year with not much to do compared with years prior, when by this time I had started xmas shopping and was living Christmas through my boys' eyes . I need something to do to keep my mind occupied...lets face it, I can organize my drawers so many times, my house has never, ever, been so clean.. Second to Thanksgiving, Christmas is my favorite holiday, love decorating the house..it was always full of my sons' friends. So I know this year it will feel kind of empty, but I can't let something like that get in the way of enjoying the season ( I keep telling my self!) I decided to invite a group of friends to have a cookie exchange on Dec 1st. for what I had read it sounds like a lot of fun and we get to expend some girl quality time,( need to star living my own, not my DH or kids...I also keep telling myself) Now...have any of you ever done or participated in a cookie exchange that can give me ideas on what to serve, how big of a group to have over, games?? Anything that could help..

Donating YT 3000 Club Member | Well you can always come to my house. I can put you to work. Got a lot to do here lol I have been to a cookie swap. It was a lot of fun. Best thing is to make appetizers. Nice savory snacks, nuts, dips since everyone will be nibbling on a cookie or two. And beverages coffee, punch and hot cider is always nice. If you want something a little alcoholic. you can make mulled wine. or you can just make one or two cocktails. 10 people is good. Everyone backs 5 dozen cookies and Everyone gets 1/2 dozen of each cookie. Also they get a copy of each recipe of cookie made. |

| That sounds so fun! When I was in college and rushing for a sorority we did something similar. I'm glad to hear you're doing something for yourself. I'd love to hear how it goes and maybe get some new cookie recipes!

| Please post the recipes on YT too. Always looking for good cookie recipes. When I bake I'd split the dough into several smaller batches and get creative with dried fruit, nuts, candies. Sometimes they turned out good, other times just ate my mistakes.

Donating YT 1000 Club Member | So far 8 friends had confirmed.Im going crazy trying to decide what cookie recipe to use, they all look s good! What is mulled wine? It is always so hot in South Florida I was thinking more along the lines of Mimosas, or Bellinis, but I like the idea of hot cider as something more traditional. Since I dont know what Im going to be making, I got at Target, red and green sugar and also bought the cookie cutter for linzer cookies, I hope I can pull those off without burning.

Donating YT 3000 Club Member | Mulled wine one of many recipes 1 large orange 2 cardamom pods 6 whole clove 6 allspice berries 6 whole black peppercorns 1 cinnamon stick, plus 4 for garnish (optional) 1 bottle (3 cups) fruity red wine 1/2 cup sugar 1/4 cup brandy Directions With a fine grater, zest, then juice the orange. With the flat side of a knife, press firmly on the cardamom pods to bruise them. In a large pot (not aluminum), combine zest, juice, cardamom, cloves, allspice, peppercorns, cinnamon, wine, sugar, and brandy. Cook over medium heat, stirring, until sugar dissolves, 1 to 2 minutes. Reduce heat to low; simmer until flavors have melded, about 30 minutes. Pour through a fine-mesh sieve; garnish with cinnamon stick, if desired. Serve immediately. |

Donating YT 3000 Club Member | Or Wassail 6tsp brown sugar* 6 eating apples, cored 100ml water* 2 litres cider* 1 orange studded with cloves spaced about an inch apart* 1 inch cinnamon stick* 6 allspice berries* 1 wine glass of cooking brandy* 1 wine glass of sherry* Heat the oven to 170c.* Place the apples on a baking tray, put a teaspoon of sugar in the hole left by the core of each, and pour the water into the tray. Cook for 20 minutes or so, until the apples are soft, but not fallen.* Meanwhile, place the cider, cloved orange, cinnamon stick and allspice in a large pan. Bring to a simmer and allow to bubble gently for 20 minutes.* Taste to check the spices have infused to your taste. If not, leave to simmer a little longer. Add the apples along with their cooking juice, the brandy, and the sherry. Simmer for another five minutes, then ladle into glasses.* |
