This isn't a recipe but it is a funny cooking story...well, it was to us kids anyway! :D When I was little our house was a huge 2 story but it was long and narrow...the kitchen was at the back of the house and the family room was in the front with the entry hall, formal living room and dining room between them. We kept a blanket across the door of the family room and used a window AC unit to cool just that room. Sooo...our dear Mother put a big stock pot of eggs on to boil and then came to sit in the front room in the cool air...big mistake! lol! She got into the John Wayne Western we were watching and no one was aware of anything until we heard some funny noises and noticed a bad smell coming from the other end of the house. We all ran to the kitchen to find the kitchen destroyed...the pot burnt black...a baaaad smell and the eggs missing from the pot. Funny thing was several of the ceiling tiles were laying on the floor with holes in them. :lol tears Yep, sure enough the pot boiled dry and shot those stinky eggs like missiles at the ceiling and knocked the tiles right out of the tracks! lol! I still laugh about that but Mother never thought it was quite as funny as Daddy and us 6 little giggling girls did...and a John Wayne movie was never quite the same at our house! |

my mama fries everything in bacon grease. My sister and I cleaned out her refrigerator and threw out seven containers of grease. She tells everybody we threw out her good grease. lol |

No funny mommy stories. My mother barely cooked. I do not cook, but thankfully my DH loves to cook. The kitchen is his domain. One day he asked me to turn the oven on for him. I was tired from work and watching one of my shows. I went in the kitchen and turned the oven to preheat. He was upsatirs and got distracted. A few minutes go by and smoke starts billowing out of my kitchen. I run in and open the oven. I burned up his good wooden butcher block he stored in the oven!!! He is still looking for a new one. |

I was babysitting once as a teenager and turned on the oven to make pizza. Smelled a horrible smell. Opened the oven door to find a pot of HOT MELTED WAX in the oven  :D  |
That drives me crazy because my husband does the same thing after he cooks bacon in the oven he puts the pan back in the oven and just expects me to know its i there when i wash dishes. I have had the smell of burnt bacon grease may times in the house where I turned it on. no fires though I could knock his block off when he does that |
