Anyway, for pickles I really love my "bf" Alton Brown's recipe for home made pickles. When I made these, my real bf tasted them and he said he felt like Emile from Ratatoulle when he tasted the two ingredients (cheese and tomato?? I don't remember) together and to take in all the tastes in the senses. He said he tasted sour first, then salty, then sweet, then peppery, lol. It's a super easy recipe, and the brine can be reused a few times (at least I did and everything was fine).

I don't use champagne vinegar bc it's just too expensive, I just left it out. This is a bit sweet, and as a person who hates sweet pickles, I cut the sugar amt in half and now I think it's perfect. The garlic turns blue for some reason. Does anyone know why? I've only made these with persian cukes, have not tries them with hothouse our english ones. Persian cucumbers are NEVER bitter, so those are the only kind I buy now.

I have been a pickle/olive lover since a child! I never met a pickle or olive I didn't like. I always get them on pizza - YUM!!! In fact (this is a little gross, sorry), when I was a kid I would ask my mom to save the brine from the pickles and I would drink it! You brought back memories of childhood w your post!

. I really would eat sweets ALL day long, if I could. I have never, ever been sick of sweets. I try to be careful w/ them though. I should have said "here are the things I crave BESIDES first craving sweets 24 hours a day!" - that's what I really meant .

I definitely go through periods where I am craving eating certain foods. Right now it is salads. I have all kinds of salad toppings and am always looking for new things to put on the salads. I have all kinds of salad dressings also but right now my favorite is a blue cheese vinagerette

Yeah I've been known to do that as well. Actually when I eat chinese dumplings, I do the same with the dipping sauce. I like mine with a bit of soy sauce, a lot of red vinegar, some sugar, sesame oil and a bit of chili paste. After eating all the dumplings I drink the sauce. Hmmm, I want some dumplings now, it's been years.

Hmmmm...that sounds like the sesame oil/soy sauce we get w tempura shrimp/veggies - LOVE that stuff!

No that's tempura sauce, it's different, but I'd drink that too. haha Dashi, mirin, and soy sauce. Some add some sugar too. Now I want some tempura too!!!

I've been obsessed with fried pickles for about six months now. But the worst part is that restaurant-bought ones are no longer up to my standards (too greasy). So I've been in a pickle-frying frenzy for several months. This cannot be normal...
