Thank you all! Reading about boiled eggs made me start craving deviled eggs!:D |
Ann? Where are you?? You are over-boiling those eggs, for real! :D |
Ann probably went to the store for more eggs. Surely she will try ALL of the methods presented to determine once and for all which is best :lol tears A good pot is essential - so if you don't have good stainless steel cookware, then a trip to the potshop is in your future. Method #1 - Preferred method Use eggs that have been in the fridge for several days - they will peel easier Place eggs in pot - with or without the paper towel - I have TowneCraft and I have used paper towels with success. Cover eggs with cold water - filtered is best Add a glug glug of vinegar and a pinch of baking soda Put on stove and turn on medium When water comes to a full roiling boil, add a dash of salt Let eggs boil for 5 minutes Turn off stove and let eggs cool in the water - they finish cooking This is important -- use one egg to crack another - tap them against each other The shells should almost fall off under running water Method #2 is what I use when I'm in a hurry -- Place eggs in pan, fill with hot tap water Turn burner on high Go in sewing room and forget eggs Run to kitchen saying bad words when the eggs explode due to all the water evaporating and the eggs cooking over high heat in dry pan Toss exploded eggs and clean stove Scrub pan Retry using Method #1 |
Hey, chattiesmom, you copied my method for making tea! That's fine and all, I just wish you'd said something. ;) My specialty is scorching a beautiful new pot until it's black. |

I don't know if this technique was posted, but I put the eggs in a pot of cool water and bring to a rapid boil. Let it boil for 5 minutes, then turn the stove off, but cover the pot with a lid. Let the egg rest for about 15 minutes in the boiling water. Then submerge the egg in ice cold water for a few minutes. The shell will come off very easily. (I've done this for over 25 years, and they always turn out perfectly.) |
We had soft boiled eggs with wheat toast points for dinner last night! Anyone have any recipes for coddled eggs? I make iced tea by the cup... I just pour my hot tea over a glass of ice. Red Rose tea makes great tea... hot or cold! Just love HB eggs in any salad! Yummmm! |
Anyone notice that brown eggs and white eggs totally cook different? I don't mind cooking with brown eggs in batters, but when I want hard boiled eggs, it's always white, they seem to cook and peel easier, the shells are not as hard or tough or something. |
I have a question... after you put the eggs in the boiling water, what temperature do you put the stove on? I assume you don't leave it on high...? |
very funny!! I teach food production in a Middle School... we do some really nice labs but one of my lessons is "boiling eggs" . I even did a power point and do a demostration .. important lessons of life:p I used to boil my eggs for 25 to 30 mins -- or at least leave them in the hot water. That is what turns them green. I guess I took the term Hard Boiled to extreem:eek: I do LOVE develed eggs and egg salad (one time we stoped at a gas station and my child smelled the sulfer smell of the gas and she said "yum, smells like you egg sandwhiches mommy.. oh my!!) All the points above are good... 12 mins boiling, cool water to stop the cooking process are what I teach now. If I remember correctly the feshest eggs don't do as well as a bit older. |

I have done that so many times... put water on to boil and forget it until I smell the smell of a pot burning! So.... where I grew up tea was what we would now call Sweet tea.. did not know there was anything different as far as Iced tea goes for many years. Also, my mom used to make sasafase (i know i spelled it wrong) tea.. it was a root and so good. She made it as a hot tea. I never see that anymore. |
