Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Kinda lame question: best way to hard boil eggs? Really, I *can* cook a little...I really can ! I've looked up many times on the net for the 'best way to make hard boiled eggs' - and they all say something different. I've tried a bunch of different methods, but they never turn out quite the way I want. When I boil mine, the shell always sticks like I boiled it in super glue and/or the shell only comes off in these teensy little sections....rather than a nice big peel. Also, I feel like the inside yolk is sometimes kinda weird looking. Does anyone have a tried and true method for this urgent dilemma?

| Well, when I decide to prepare such a delicate dish... hahaha I do not put my eggs in the water until it is has reached a roaring boil. I let them boil for 14 minutes (I have elelctric) and then immediately put them in cold water for several minutes. I always have shells that fall off in a few large pieces. |

The only difference is my instructions said after placing the eggs in boiling water, return to boil and set a timer for 12 minutes. It takes a minute or so for the water to return to a boil, so I bet your 14 minute instructions take that into account. Quote:
lol....milk to cereal....you'll need an expert for that one....I just know, don't pour the milk until you're ready to eat....soggy cereal is just YUCK!

| Electric stove here also, the way I boil eggs is; 1. Fill pan with water 2. Turn on medium heat and put eggs in pan 3. Once water reaches boiling point I let them boil for 10 minutes 4. After ten minutes I remove the pan from heat and run cold water on the eggs. Once I can handle the eggs I remove them from the cold water. It works for me, I think again my buddy Rachael Ray taught me this (I consider Rachael and Paula Deen two my BFF's).

| Ha! Great topic! My Mom's method: Fill a large pot with cold water, add some salt (makes the water boil faster and keeps eggs from cracking) and room temperature eggs. Bring to a boil and simmer for 10 minutes. Then turn off the burner and remove the pot from the heat, cover and let stand for 10 minutes. Then I set the pan under the faucet and run cold water in till cool and let them set in water till I'm ready to peel them. If I need to store them, I take them out of the water and place in a ziplock in the fridge. The trick to peeling them later is: Take them out of the fridge and put them back into warmish water and let them warm up. If you crack one and it's hard to peel, put it back in the water cracked for a few, then try again. Egg shells are porous, so they dry out when taken out of the water.... the warmer the egg the faster it will dry out and become hard to peel. So you'll have to experiment with the timing.... My best method: WalMart used to sell an eggshaped microwave egg cooker.... best tasting HB eggs you could ever ask for on the planet.... time varies on egg temp and microwave strength.... on an 800 watter it takes 14 minutes to cook on high and 2 minutes to rest, from the fridge (room temp eggs take 2 minutes less cook time) then into cold water... same rules for peeling as above. Cons: only cooks 4 eggs at a time. (I have seen this in some common mail-order catalogs) Ha! Seems Target has it now: NordicWare Egg Boiler : Target Next best method: I have an electric model egg cooker that does 6 eggs at a time, still better flavor than the boiled water method.... I like the timer bc I can do other things without having to watch the pot! Thought this may help: Amazon.com: How To Boil An Egg: And 184 Other... (JK)

| I boil mine for 12 minutes with a pinch of salt in the water. Run them under cold water as soon as you remove them from the stove. If you peel them as soon as they are cool enough to handle, the shells never stick. |
